New 270 Awning available.

Hello!

I'm looking to add a 270 canopy to my 2006 Ford E150. So much valuable info here; thanks to all of you who contribute!

Has anyone had hands-on experience with both the Quick pitch weathershade 270 and 23zero peregrine? Im having a hard time understanding the size of the 23zero peregrine and the material of the Quick pitch weathershade 270. Looking for the best protection from rain with the largest coverage and ease of opening/closing. Any insight on these two would be helpful.

Also, i need guidance on how to mount the canopy. Currently i have just a bare roof. I'm hoping i can get cross bars that mount to my roof gutter, but wondering if there are certain dimensions of the cross bars i needs to be able to accommodate to mounting the canopy. Also not sure if i need just 2 cross bars or 3?

Thanks in advance for any advice that can be offered.
I had the rhino rack batwing awning and upgraded to the quickpitch. The quick pitch is a beast and is heavy but worth every dime if you ask me. I would recommend getting quickpitch or front runner crossbars and quickpitch brackets

I am sorry if this has already been discussed here, but has anyone had any experience with the doghouse 270?https://www.doghousetents.com/products/free-standing-270-degree-awnings?variant=37027629858981

I am having a bit of a hard time sourcing a nice 270 here in bc and the manufacturer is just a couple hours down the road! The pictures look quite like a bush company which has me excited.

I had an eesi-awn bat on my four wheel and it was incredible. I then bought an ovs lt for my next setup and it just was not as slick. Exactly as kottonwood said the awning was fine, but putting it away was way too much work.

I have the OVS 270 LT and it works great and is easy to pack up. I went with the LT because of the lower weight, bulk, and price.

I was just at DogHouseTent a couple of days ago and picked one up. I plan to mount it next week to get ready for my trip to Cabin Lake next weekend.

The awning arms looks similar to this Drifta awning:

Added Doghouse 270 to the list. The construction looks to be similar to the Bush Company 270 but with a better coverage for the rear of the vehicle, IMO. The material doesn't appear to have a reflective coating on top for heat rejection but that may not matter much in Canada. It has a 2 yr warranty, nice!

Purchased the Ostrich Wing Awning from Ruggedbound. It came down to the Bush Co 270 XT and the Ostrich... timing was critical as I wanted to have the awning installed at the same time as my Overland Explorer Camp-X was getting installed at Big Sky RV in Bozeman. Theo at Ruggedbound was able to get the Ostrich Wing Awning to me on time and helped with install guidance. I highly recommend contacting him if interested. Big Sky did a fantastic job on the install. The door opens easily and I have the rear and side coverage I was after. A couple of surprises on the awing - it came with 3 legs (I thought it would be one) and it came with a light bar that is powered via 12v. The light bar eliminates the need for a side light on the camper or lantern on my cooking table. I ended up removing two of the bars as it's easier to put the awning away with a little less bulk and weight. Plus, it's so good in the wind, it's hard to see to the need for 3 legs. It also came with a bag of poles and stakes if you really want to secure it. The awning really is a 30 second setup. Putting it away is a little longer for me as I have to use a ladder to zip up the bag. Let me know if you have any questions regarding the awning. I'm loving it so far.

Anyone know of any ~72” 180 deg awnings? Would be perfect size on the rear of a full size.

I installed the Doghouse awning. It does indeed appear to be a very similar design to the Drifta Stockton 270 tent. For the CAN$900+ price, it offers the best value for me as someone who offroads once to twice a month during the summer and fall months.

Great value for a 270-deg awning. The other 270-deg awnings around the CAN$1K range are flimsy and harder to set up (need legs to support it).

Alia176. First, let me say thanks for putting together the list and maintaining it. I just wish you would have started this thread before I bought my Rhino Batwing a couple of years ago. I had no idea there were that many available. (Google and I don't have a good working relationship.)

The Rhino is OK. I was always a little nervous setting it up considering how much it droops until you get the poles set up. Then I had a sudden gust of wind come up and flip it over the truck and break two of the pivots. Replaceable, but now I am less likely to set it up for fear of it happening again.

Being the engineer I am, I took all your info and put it in a spreadsheet (insert my wife's eye roll here). Makes it easier for me to compare sizes, weights, ... I added a column if poles are required or suggested. Threw in an extra designation. There is the 270 and the 270+. The 270+ has that extra side panel to extend it a further forward.

If anyone wants the excel file, send me a PM and I will send it to you. I updated some of the sizes and weights where I could. Prices when I remembered to. If anyone finds the missing info, let me know and I will fill it in.

You're welcome and excellent work on the spreadsheet, fellow enginerd :)

I had the same reservations as you when it came to my BW. Even though I never broke the hinges with wind, I was a nervous wreck until I guyed it down. Still, I broke two hinges simply deploying one time while it got hung up somehow. I always carries spare hinges but still, it was no bueno. The BW does have a real good coverage over the rear tailgate and the side and I do miss that. Pros and cons to everything, as they say.

What is interesting is the psychological aspect of owning an awning. If you have to anchor it every time, you're less likely to deploy it, IME. My current awning is robust and I deploy it at a moment's notice w/o even thinking about the wind. Now, I guy down the middle span with a rope where the loops are located, but not for rain water but for less flapping during the night while we sleep. I'm not sure why the Bush company didn't sew on velcro loops or the like in the midspan in order to prevent flappage! I also deploy the awning so that I can hang these cute little lanterns for ambiance. Below is a pic taken with a Galaxy S20 night time shot by a friend. I was turning on the lanterns one by one.

My turn to give input for those still looking to buy

Attached/ linked are pictures and a quick video of Overland Vehicle Systems 270 degree Awning NOMADIC.
Received 1/18/2022 ( in case there are several versions, iterations, order was placed 12/1/21 from Morris 4x4)

VIDEO

Pictures

I read and watch a ton of review of products before I purchase them. Surprisingly, there is still 10%-5% misinformation or the product could have possibly changed.

MOST IMPORTANT NOTE: Instructions say (only self supportive during packing and deployment) The bars on the awning each also have a red warning label saying ( .. only self supportive during packing and deployment). I got this awning bc it says "self supportive for normal/mild conditions" on the OVS site and Morris 4x 4 site.

-Larger than expected.
-Bracket fit my LOD roof rack! 1.25 inches or 32 mm (diameter)
-Packing time is longer than 5 minutes, doing it right, closer to 10 min my 2nd time by my self.
-Only 2 issues.

A middle attached pole-pivot came damaged
B the aluminum backing has dent damaged, should not interfere with use for now, possibly in future if using bottom rail for a WALL unit.

-Bag/cover is large enough where no major force needs to be done when packing so that the bag/cover closes

any how, bummed about the pivot broken and I am just picky about the aluminum backing being bent/dented.
