this is an aside but someone who is more familiar with HTML code may know this answer. See how Camp King industries url is producing the pic in my post? How do I get rid of the pic but keep the URL so that others can click on it? Do I have to modify the URL somehow?

edit: using a diff URL for campking

I just installed the Freespirit 270 on my GoFast camper. Although the awning seems solid-enough, I have been a little disappointed with the quality. It has a very "amazon off-brand" feel with regard to the construction and hardware. For example, the kickstand, used to elevate the tarp in rain, feels pretty cheap and seems to have been mounted incorrectly. It will not deploy in its current position because the pivot is located too close to where the tarp material attaches to the frame. This can be corrected by drilling a new hole for the mounting point, which isn't a big deal, but maybe not something that I should need to do for a new product. Only time will tell how well it holds up to real world use. My initial opinion is that if you are looking for something that is bomber, you would be better served to look elsewhere.

In order to mount the FSR 270, I purchased three separate awning mounting brackets directly from GoFast Campers. I do not believe that the mounting brackets provided with the awning will work for the GoFast's. It is also worth noting that the awning does not come with the support pole that is shown in the video on the website. I knew this going in, but it isn't entirely clear from their website. The FSR 270 does ship with guylines and beefy ground stakes to tie down the corners in wind.

Overall, I think the FSR 270 is a good purchase at the current sale price of $875, but probably not at the list price of $1250.

With that in mind, I'm pretty bummed about how Freespirit handled the preorder pricing for the awning. Folks that preordered paid up-front at 10%-off MSRP. However, the kicker is that the day the preorders were shipping, FSR sent out the email advertising 30%-off "Black Friday" pricing on the awning - in October! I did inquire via email whether they might extend that sale price to the preorders, but was totally ghosted. I probably wouldn't feel so bad about paying the higher price if the quality was better. That's business, I guess. Lesson learned.
Thanks for the feedback. Based on your post and taking another look at the amount of coverage I decided against the FSR.

I went to the OVS office to check out their awning and was discouraged by how hard it is to stow away after using it. The velcro straps are too short and the cover was very tight.

Now leaning towards the Overland Pros Wraptor 6K and hoping to check one out in person soon,

You're smart to check these things out in person. The tightness of the bag is an important thing to consider, you have a rare luxury that most of us don't!!!

Don't think I saw this one on the list. Looks like now they're offering a free awning wall as well.

Taruca

Extreme 270 @ $1299. 58LBS, 129 sq/ft, 98" long

Extreme dark 270+ version @ $1499. 62lbs, 145sq/ft, 91" long
I like these but it says that their canvas is not waterproof. Not sure how well it will hold up in the rain.
  • Our Awnings are designed primarily for sun shade and not for heavy rain events. While our Awnings are made with water-resistant materials, they are not waterproof. It is important to note that during heavy rain or extreme weather conditions, we recommend taking necessary precautions to protect your Awning and gear. Please use caution and always follow recommended guidelines for setup and usage of our Awnings in order to ensure the best possible experience.

Bummer. I will say, my OVS 270 kept us dry during some Wyoming rains while camping this summer.

The Taruca Awnings are currently 30% off the 2023 models or 10% off a 2024 model. Was basically free shipping for the 2024 270° Extreme Darkness one I just got.

A question..... Which of these awnings actually open up to a true 270 degree. I was looking at the OVS but it is more like a 260. This leaves a big gap at the point of where my OVRLND ends at the end of our F250. Since I have the barn doors, it would not keep any rain off the tail gate area..... Thanks Jeff

Has anyone purchased the Quick picth awning? I think I am between that and the Wraptor 6, but looking for input on it.
