New adventure Toy(ota) in AZ

Been a while since I update the build progress. I haven't done that much since the front struts and strut tower bar. But this weekend I changed out the driving lights for 6" yellow, for better visibility in dusty conditions, which I would encounter often if I work more rallies. I also converted them to HID, using cheap Ebay H3 kits.
The previous weekend I bought vented 10.6" rotors and 2nd gen RX7 rear calipers to build my own disk brake conversion kit for the back end. After a few hard stops on the street, the back end has proved itself to be under powered. The tail of the car gets a bit squirelly. The rotors came off of the same Cressida the front bigger brakes came from, so it should give me a decent balanced system. The reason for the RX7 calipers, they are built to work on vented rotors and the parking brake system is through the caliper, instead of those goofy drum brake parking brakes...

I keep getting side tracked from the rear brake upgrade. This past weekend, I had the FOX rear shocks revalved. They seemed really whimpy after having the custom front struts made. There is a post in the Completed Adventures section about the testing trip we took yesterday "Celica's search for snow". The new valving made a HUGE difference on and off road. On road, it no longer feels like it's leaning over a foot to turn corners, off road, it now takes the high speed ruts and rocks smoothly, no bottoming out, and controling the rear axle nicely and predictably.

Nope, it doesn't bother me to leave it open. But, I am in the middle of starting on my grille/headlight surround. I don't really drive through tree branches or follow other cars too closely.

If I had a mock-up axle, I probably could be done by now. But, since I don't, I'll have to take the axle on the car apart in order to design a caliper bracket, one to bolt on in place of the drum backing plate. After that, it's mounting new brake lines and figuring out a way to run parking brake cables.

A change that shows on the car. I finally got around to fitting a grille to the front of the car, make it look more complete, less junk yard dog. The grille started out as an early 90's Mazda grille, chopped up a bit to make it fit. Good thing too, it was kind of heavy for a plastic grille. Now, I just have to figure out how to make the corner pieces.

Awesome build! Love the Safari-Rally theme! I miss my rally car, but with wife, two kids and a dog, the two-door rally car was just one notch up from the motorcycles... and no where near "cutting it" for family outting!

I still have my rally car, but having too much fun with this car for the time being. The perks of not having kids I guess, and not being married.
