New BFG MT?

Came across a thread earlier reporting this will be the new MT that will hit the market from BFG. Very similar to their Krawler tire designed for rock competitions. It looks as though it will be louder than the previous style with less sidehill grip.

Anyone have any info on this? I no longer work with Michelin so i'm out of the loop.

John, that pic is about 18 - 24 months old. I have been hearing about this forever - at least it seems that way! I know a few shops have managed to get a hold of these tires to try them out but I have not heard of any laypersons getting their hands on them.

I, too, am very interested in these tires. If they don't make them available soon, I just may have to go with some Simex tyres for my offroad adventures.

FWIW, there is currently a new tread design on the BFG MTs, but it's a minor change and reminiscent of MT/Rs.

what's the pro/con to the new design? I'm about to pull the trigger in the next couple weeks on a full set, and need to know if it's something to look out for.

Bummer if the new design even remotely mimics the krawler. Two totally different markets. I would never dream of running a krawler type pattern on the street which is mandatory for any of my rigs... If this is the case, yes I would buy the existing model before they go or switch to a different brand. But I have a feeling this is mostly hype. If BFG did take this pattern across the board it would be genuinely retarded. But would probably sell a lot to the yoyos with Ford trucks with 6" lifts and 35" tires, which may increase their bottom line, which is may be what they are after versus a more all-around functional MT design..

Again, I just saw the `new' design on Durango_60s rig recently that came stock on his JK. This is the new one we're talking about, right? They look very similar to the old just a few more sharper acute angles on the blocks. The compound did seem to be very soft and grippy. No idea if that means more wear or not.

Could be wrong, but I thought I read that the MT that comes w/ the JK, was going to be just for that vehicle, not available to general public. Seems stupid to me though, sales would be better overall to all, not just JK's. Hopefully they shy away from the krawler tread, as reviews say side lateral traction is horrible under speed.

The new tread pattern is very loud on pavement and the wear sucks, I had 2 customers use them. Traction on dirt or gravel was great, wet pavement was spooky, ice was not an option. Siping helped on wet or icy roads but it always does. We went to Toyo's successfully, both trucks were F-350's.

Heres a link to the Krawler KX showing how the center lugs are more offset than compared to the "new"? pic posted above.

These tires are available in a red and blue label, red being the competition compound.

I was just curious as i'v run BFG MT's for years, and i dont think i'd want the KX or new tread pattern as my next set. I'll probably opt for the BFG AT in a 285/75/16 next set.

pskhaat, i also heard the JK MT's were JK specific as erin mentioned. Probably a temporary pattern till the new model is released?...or perhaps it will be the new model released in more sizes later.

There is a new MT coming out, and it does look like a Krawler, but with less tread depth and the lugs are siped in half. There will be new sizes as well. :) Expect to see them in the next few months.

So is this a replacement for the current BFG MT K/M or is it a different model?

any reports on sidewall strength?
I once ripped a hole in the sidewall of an old bfg M/T by staring at it for 5 minutes... to be fair though I was making an angry face.

Huh, of that I had no idea! ...and I stand corrected.

Considering the size rim that thing is on I wonder if it's going to be a bling tire. You know the F350's that are lifted and running on 20" all terrain/mud tires.

That I don't know. The only models I have seen are in new sizes, so I don't know if the tread pattern is going to replace the old tread pattern or just supplement it.
