You have to figure that from a manufacturer's standpoint, offering a manual transmission doesn't make any sense. Literally 95% of drivers cannot even operate one and don't want to learn.

The truck does look promising. I hope that it has decent sized wheel wells so that you can run bigger than a 31" tire (that was a big issue on the late model S-10 and the previous Colorado).

With an overall width 6" narrower than the Silverado, I think it should be plenty narrow for those wanting a "compact" truck these days. Fact is that driving a Ford Ranger sized vehicle makes you feel like you are in a go kart. This should offer a good compromise of size and capability.

Also as previously mentioned, payload capacity is probably a product of soft rear springs that could be helped by airbags or an overload to increase its load handling capability. Heck even the new Ram 2500's have relatively low payload ratings because of the new ultra comfy coil spring rear end. Personally I would rather have a comfortable truck that I can modify to make handle a load than a stiff sprung beast that will never have good ride quality.

Saw the new COLORADO at the car show.
I'm impressed, it looks great inside and out. The interior looks similar in size/ more comfortable than the TACOMA 4 door.
Size looks comparable to the Tacoma as well.

fully boxed frame, and the styling is very much like a baby SIERRA.
I also really like the new SIERRA and TAHOE. Those new styles look great.

I'm all in for the diesel.

I am a diehard manual trans fan in older rigs but I would never buy a new daily driver vehicle with a manual ever again. The last new vehicle with a manual trans that I bought was my 2001 Silverado HD with the ZF S6-650 6 speed. I’ve hated rowing that stupid thing from the day I brought it home and still hate it 13 years later. The only way I would take another manual in a new vehicle is if it was a part-time driver/toy vehicle like a Jeep Rubicon or Corvette. Daily driver / light off-roaster...no way

well the ZF 6 speed does suck  The mannies in Toyotas are quite sporty, (even better with a Marlin short throw kit ;) ) I don't mind shifting in my DD. I feel a little lost and bored with the auto in our Trooper. That may be changing here soon, believe we are putting it and the VW up for sale here after the first of the year...looking to get another Tacoma (or 4Runner) with manny, the girlfriend prefers shifting her own gears too...

yes, considering a [newer] Subaru Forester as well.

I would love to find a nice 3rd gen manual 4runner...but for 10k you get a 200K runner or a 100K subie...from my searches at least the 3rd gens are way overpriced...shoot you can find a nice LC for cheaper

We find out in the next couple weeks, if she gets the job in Idaho, she flies up
there next week for the final part of the interview. Soooo...we want another 4WD or AWD. Suby makes the most sense, since I most likely
will have a 30-40 minute commute into Boise. Girlfriend doesn't want a Suby [family wagon] in the household though...so 4Runner or another Tacoma,
might have to work on her, she'll drive the Taco...and me the Suby.

LC doesn't make the cut...no manual trans.

I'm calling BS on that.

I personally know plenty of individuals that are frustrated with the lack of manual transmissions in today's truck market. Anywhere there's a new-truck discussion on the 'net, someone almost always cries foul because there's no manual available (or is only offered on some undesirable trim level). This thread is no exception.

Also, my Ranger doesn't at all feel like a go-kart... With a 1550lb payload capacity, I think it's capability is quite reasonable too (this Colorado's estimated 1400lbs and the Taco's ~1380lbs are laughable considering their much bigger size). 6000lbs towing capacity is nothing to shake a stick at either, though most people don't buy small trucks to tow huge boats & stuff...

Well you can't really call BS on the simple statistics. The fact is that the VAST percentage of drivers do not want a manual. Heck, the reason the Hummer was spec'ed with an automatic is that the military didn't want to have to train all the soldiers how to drive a stick and the VAST number of recruits didn't know how to drive a stick. Sad but true.
