The JLR embedded smartphone is always connected to JLR and to third-party services

"Pivi Pro system has its own battery, so it can be always on and always connected,........"

Do you realistically believe JLR won't "share" the collected data with "partners"? Look no further than Privacy Policy for InControl™services

Sharing Information–We share Covered Information:

..........with third-parties, including service providers, that process information on our behalf, and to provide you with InControl Services;
..........with our trusted business partners and other third-parties to provide you with information about offers, goods and services
......"

I would think JLR views this as a recurring revenue stream.
Still nothing about "surveillance" and "selling your data to third parties".
It seems they do just like a computer which relies on, say, Intel to update the processor's firmware and the like. Ever updated a driver on your PC? It doesn't say anything in your quotes that hints at this being any different.

What part of a always-on location service that is Sharing Information–We share Covered Information: ..........with our trusted business partners and other third-parties to provide you with information about offers, goods and services ......"

Do you really think they won't convert that to a revenue stream? Seriously? Your personal data will be monetized. There is also work to provide you with a cut of the revenue through cryptocurrency transactions.

Jun 6, 2019 Just recently IOTA and Jaguar Land Rover announced a partnership to allow car drivers to monetize their DATA!

The same is true when you update your graphics driver on you computer or something else. It still does not mean "surveillance" nor "selling your data to third parties".

I'm sorry, I can't find my tin foil hat.

As for this:
Jun 6, 2019 Just recently IOTA and Jaguar Land Rover announced a partnership to allow car drivers to monetize their DATA!
Let me point out an important part of that quote:

Jun 6, 2019 Just recently IOTA and Jaguar Land Rover announced a partnership to allow car drivers to monetize their DATA!
.
That is not "selling your data to third parties," nor "surveillance".

Don't be naive.

Cars Suck Up Data About You. Where Does It All Go?
NYT

"Cars have become rolling listening posts. They can track phone calls and texts, log queries to websites, record what radio stations you listen to — even tell you when you are breaking the law by exceeding the speed limit.

Automakers, local governments, retailers, insurers and tech companies are eager to leverage this information, especially as cars transform from computers on wheels into something more like self-driving shuttles. And they want to tap into even more data, including what your car’s video cameras see as you travel down a street.

Who gets what information and for what purposes? Here is a primer...............

What are they attributes are they collecting/assembling?

So, you're saying that the New Defender collects all of those things AND sell it to third-parties?
A lot of those things mentioned are illegal to collect in at least the EU.

I'm sorry, but I assume you have lots of patterns for hats you can make from "stuff" from your kitchen drawers. All metal, of course.

OK can we just get back to talking about things that matter? If you don't like cell phones and their privacy issues just don't have one. Or a new defender.

Anyone else notice the Defender is on a new, unpublished tire size?

Yep that's a 255/60R20 duatrac. Should be just over 32" and stock. The 275/60/20 that already exists will likely fit (33")... and there's even E rated 275/65/20.... (34")!

That 34" will likely require some light trimming but would be an awesome aesthetic boost for the platform IMO

Can anyone speak to the California LR Festival that was mentioned; where and when is it? I'm a bit behind the power curve on these things but might like to try and attend this if possible.

Now that JLR has adopted Blackberry QNX OS tracking Blackberry technology is more informative than JLR itself.

BlackBerry and Amazon are teaming up at CES to make cars smarter, more secure

The two companies are combining the secure QNX operating system with AWS' machine learning and "internet of things" smarts to bring cars further into the future.

"........
Specifically, the two companies are taking BlackBerry's well-developed, relatively secure and widely employed QNX operating system and pairing it with AWS' internet-of-things and machine learning capabilities to create something called the Intelligent Connected Vehicle Software Platform that will allow vehicle manufacturers to securely access a vehicle's data. This new system was announced on Monday at CES 2020 in Las Vegas.

But, like, why? Well, having fast and secure access to vehicle data means that a vehicle manufacturer can offer things like cockpit personalization and vehicle health monitoring as well as the rapid adoption of new driver assistance systems, and it can all be done without ever having to plug the vehicle into a dealer computer.........."

Your new Defender will be 'always-connected' to cloud data collection services that are inherently less secure.

I'm hesitant to enter this conversation, but as I work in this very field, I ? assure you these data are "shared." The monies for such exchange can be packaged in any way. Regardless of anyone's subjective opinion on the ethics for or against, let's not pretend these data are not being shared. No real rules against this in the US (despite the CCPA) and not real hard to get you to agree to this via GDPR.
