New Defender Rage/Hate Thread

Installing tires isn't a headache.

My EAS is stock.

I don't have a winch.

I haven't broken down.

The Horse is dead.

I am sure he meant "decent tires" assumes larger, etc especially for LR4's. It is most certainly a "headache" to fit 32-33-34" tires even on the lr3, more so on the lr4. You know what a Land Cruiser requires for 33" perfect fully functional fit? Simply a trip to tire shop to pop them on and you can even go with factory TRD 17" wheels. Nothing to do whatsoever. By comparison it makes chosing any "decent" (sized) tire a headache or annoyance at least. I may be partial to this though because when I did it, there were no 75 page threads discussion the 5 different ways to do this or that. There was only Discoweb to laugh at you for buying an LR3 in the first place with no help on how to fit something other than stock.

Can I sneak this in here: what did you get instead of whatever you had? No judgement, just curious.

Even though I detest them, I just tell people to get a 4Runner or Wrangler. They're both ugly, under-powered, and handle like crap, but they're practical and will get you out and back reliably. Personally, I got an F150 for hauling people/cargo and an ROW D90 for exploration. I'd rather have a modern Defender 130 and 90, but LR didn't make them.

Even though I detest them, I just tell people to get a 4Runner or Wrangler. They're both ugly, under-powered, and handle like crap, but they're practical and will get you out and back reliably. Personally, I got an F150 for hauling people/cargo and an ROW D90 for exploration. I'd rather have a modern Defender 130 and 90, but LR didn't make them.

Ha! I've toyed w idea of full size and camper because it's so versatile as a vehicle for hauling stuff, camping, etc. But then I get caught up on suv shape (old Ford Excursion lifted, beast mode) , then van shape (Ford EB 4x4 etc), end up at Sprinter ("4x4"/awd but huge headroom), then remember it can't go on trails I like to find, then I do nothing and just plan a mtb trip (or nordic skiing now) ;)

An HJ75 Troopy or HiAce might be a decent fit for you.

Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha! You actually think you're in a position to accuse others of not having any "reading comprehension"? After having had to spend several pages explaining to you - with examples - what a global vehicle was? Yeah, that's bloody rich.

But, yes, you claim to only have had to replace a drive belt. Yet simultaneously claim you're carrying drive shafts and even differentials. But, yes, vehicles can be overloaded, especially if carry spare drive trains. You claim to only have replaced a drive belt, but I doubt that claim though. And if that is the only thing, maybe not carrying extra driveshafts and differentials might be much better for the vehicle.

That cute rig at the top? Did LR put mini-van engines in their 130's too?

I don't wanna start anything, but that Jeep is 95% as complex as the new Defender. All this talk about repair-ability, a new Jeep don't got it like the LR pictured does. They look the same and they both have solid axles. I suppose if you define successor as those two criteria, it fits the bill.

I couldn't drive a newer Jeep, it just feels built to a lifestyle target vs built for purpose....but I am sure (know) I am probably in the minority. I'd drive a D90 over either one of those....

Maybe if you saw and actually experienced the trails we travel over here you'd understand why we carry spares. Only trail I've actually carried the differential on was the Rubicon. We didn't use the differential on that trip but we in our group we had 6 broken axles, 3 broken hubs, two broken steering boxes and various body damage. I had no breakage, along with one other vehicle. This was in my FJ40 Land Cruiser. We used all of the spares we brought and did have to send a parts runner to the nearest town to retrieve a new steering box. Would love to see you tackle any of it a new Defender. LOL.

Remember all those quotes of you getting it wrong time and time again about what a "global vehicle" is? And you doubling down on that ignorance by accusing me of being the inventor of that term? You know, within the last hour or so?

You carry spares because you need them, now. A few posts ago, you have never needed them, you only had to swap a belt. Now you need all the spares (differentials, shafts etc.).

No amount of bro-off requests will prove you right - and particular not your rock crawling buddy-buddy system. Proud of having stuff fail even. While rock crawling. :ROFLMAO::rolleyes:

LOL this guy, triggered and such an easy target made abundantly apparent in the types of presumptive replies. Nobody here hasn't heard the widely common term but I have to say, the worst nasty tools on Discoweb sound like more fun to hang around than you.
