New Defender Rage/Hate Thread

Classic charm and Character Are pretty important. To me It’s the biggest short coming I have found in my LR3 coming from Jeep and Disco ones (that and how much Maintenance Costs) The lack of character of my LR3 is a big part of what made me regret the purchase. The truck has done anything I have wanted it to do. But it’s not anymore fun to drive than our back up 01 Tahoe.

That said I’m sure the Defender will be a different game and some day I would at least like to look into the possibility of getting the new 90. That or a TJU.

That's one of the things that drove me to a Wrangler- it's charm. We test drove the Discovery, the Land Cruiser- none of them have the Character and Spirit of the Wrangler. I think Land Cruiser's are just boring- in a well-engineered way- don't get me wrong, if I didn't have the Rubi that's what I'd probably get, but still just kind of plain- like a really well-built and dependable toaster. Land Rover's just seem stuffy to me- pretentious- and what's interesting is that it's kind of without good reason- they are less reliable than the Yota and not as capable as the Heep.

There is a fine line between innovation and upgrade.
Toyota always upgrades and almost never innovates, and that proved to be far superior than being the first one to test something new.
there is nothing wrong with LR4 technology, all they have to do is fix small issues it had and defender will be great reliable truck.
but who knows if they did that or changed is completely.

If it’s anything like the LR4 was over say the L322 it should be a solid upgrade.

Completely agree that LR continues to innovate- they just don't prioritize the off-road world. If you honestly think they do isn't it kind of sad that after years of innovation they still can't outperform off-road technology that has existed for decades?

“Outperform” in what way? If all you want is a pure rock crawler, yes the Wrangler performs better. But if you want payload? Towing capacity? Wading depth? High speed driving on washboards? Get a Defender.

if you want to talk about innovation in off road tech, the multi chamber air suspension in the new Defender has been called out by several prominent overlanding experts as a big improvement.

We are talking about a vehicle that a bunch of pros have said is one of the best overlanders that they have tried, and you are sitting here still acting like it’s garbage off road. It’s absurd.

Now that we’ve seen these Barbie-cars fail at off-roading, check out one going into limp-mode 10 miles from the dealer.

Yeah and it’s already being investigated by Land Rover. It’s a new vehicle model if you didn’t expect little issues your a moron. Even though it had a fault it was still able to drive fine. It’s no different than any other new vehicle the first year or two will have little issues that will have to be worked out.

This is the hate thread. Please try and stay on topic. If you want to say something nice go to the happy happy thread where you are moderated if you say anything negative.

Neighbors Rubicon on recall number 2 already and 2 service trips for major driveline issues.

Keeps saying innovate, has no clue what it really means, then agrees when someone tells him what innovate means and then says something that means nothing related to innovate.

LR puts limp mode to protect the vehicle, the beloved Merc G-Wagon does it but hey at least it still looks like the heritage version, Ford does it, Cadillac, Chevy, Lambo, Ferrari, etc; Jeep lets it blow up. Top military vehicles in just about every modern nation have limp mode that can be override for contingency operations. Read the recall list and what companies have the highest ratings of recalls since 2018; JLR is not even on the top 10 list. Every vehicle you guys compare it to in rolling Top 5.

You guys probably have no weight either on your JEEP and LC threads so you come over here so you can try and sound like real trail-kings. Truth be told, the loudest mouths are usually the least to worry about cuz you'll never see them and if you actually do, steer clear cuz they generally are reckless and the ones nobody wants around their campsite.

And who outside of you Trolls is comparing a Defender ever to a Wrangler; Nobody! Cuz we know it's a different class vehicle all around and we are all supporters of those vehicles but you Trolls come over here and drop nothing but BS all day long. But your Wrangler is still and SUV and everybody knows why so blah blah.

@EricTyrell your the biggest one of all and sucking @JeepColorado around in your hip pocket and neither of you can come to the table with anything of value to your skills or experience in any matter of the fact on any of these subjects.

But hey, I'll digress cuz I'm still waiting to drag one of you boys out on the trail and see where you mouth meets the mountain, bring your lumberjack F150 and your FaceSpaceGramming Rubicon and put it up against an LR, old or new but you won't....safe behind your keyboard!

And for @T-Willy, you got me wrong man, @Doron is the one saying he can't count how many times he's had to do field repairs, anyone who says that is either lying to pump up their skills or drives a piece of junk cuz nobody should have to do that many field repairs; drove a Yoto Tercell type model halfway around the Helmand, Afghanistan and didn't need that many field repairs; what a joke. My vehicle is reliable and I don't worry about it; but I know how to fix it if something was to happen.

You guys talk about allllll this adventure and overland and off-road criteria needed for global expeditions and I'd bet my left nut you haven't made it much further than 3/4 tank of gas in low-range from your local Starbucks. FYI, love Starbucks, those green macha-lattes are divine! Sorry side-tracked back to you overland-kings......please continue to preach to us about what we have to have for heritage and global expedition, and National Park passes.......

Tic Toc Tic Toc.............the Trolls the Trolls the Trolls....

Here, I have to disagree with you. I've had a Jeep go into limp mode instead of blowing up. I mean, it was a janky little Patriot with a CVT, but it had the Jeep badge on it, so it counts. There was an innovative vehicle, compared to the Wrangler - they did some clever stuff in the Freedom Drive II to emulate locking diffs and a low range when it had neither. Not exactly the most capable but it was a good daily driver and saved some $$$ at the gas pump.

All the effort, and they put street tires on. Lol, they better not complain that ''Cooper tires blow up in gravel.'' or something.

Nop..
It just a result of being out there for 30+ years of agriculture and off road in many vehicles and machinery.
You should try it, it expand your mind and confidence when things go wrong.

Loosen up, the parts Rover-in-tow comment was a joke.

Just like the universal Land Rover magnetic rear bumper that I'm designing for you guys -- it will catch and retain parts that fall off so that they're not left behind.
