Sales?

does anyone know how the power wagon sales are going?

I know full size truck sales are down considerably as of late...so I'd assume they arent doing too well but I ran across this thread and it caught my attention...?

They can't be doing too well since Dodge is offering cash back and free gas for two years.

A few months back (Aug. I think), one of the old TTORA-Socal guys scored a new Power Wagon for around $28,000. Ford, GM, and DC were giving away their cars and trucks. Sales went through the roof and then crashed as soon as the deals went away.

$28,000 was a good price for that truck :clapsmile

I would have bought one in a heartbeat if they would have had a diesel option. Since they dont, Ill stick with the Super Duty.

I think we all would have! But there is no way those axles they are using will live under a diesel. They would have to re-design the lockers to work with the 11.25" r/p and whatever they are using in the front now (used to be the dana 60 up front and either a dana 70 or 80 in the rear). They already use the np241 transfer case (same as the power wagon and the rubicon wranglers....just with different gearing).

This is a very compelling vehicle. I could not find one over the weekend to check out.

Any thoughts on the 6 speed versus automatic on the trail? The dealer said they never see the 6 speed and would have to order one.

Could anyone comment on the realized gas mileage of a Power Wagon?

any chance Dodge is planning on putting a diesel in? any word?

I do know a new Cummings is not far away, 6.7 liter.

To date my DPW has been unbelievable off road! The winch has had quite the work out pulling alot of stuck vehicles out. It has pulled me out twice now. I used it once to remove a tree off the trail. This tree had fallen on the trail after we drove by. Two hours later we discovered the tree across the trail. Kind of funny. Anyway its been great. As far as a diesel that would be the ultimate Expedition platform for sure. Hopefully when Chrysler puts the new Mercedes Diesel engine in next year or so they will put one in the Power Wagon option. If they do I will trade or sell this one and get a new one! Also a One ton would be very appealing for those extended trips!

Great to hear you're happy. Where do you typically wheel? Do you take all the harder trail lines? I'm curious if the breakover angle due to the long wheel base has hung ya up?

I have been hung up once. I new it was going to happen but wasnt worried do to the under armor everywhere! That was the other time I had to winch. But that was an extreme not your typical 4x4 action. I had to help my son recover his dirt bike which eat a piston 20 miles from home. I typiaclly do alot of ghost towning and exploring in the higher elevations of Nevada. I am about 3-1/2 hours North of Las Vegas near Ely NV. I get down to Vegas quite a bit now these days. And yes I do tend to take the harder trail lines now.

The front axle is the 9.25 AAM, same as in the Diesel versions as far as I know. I've heard of people bending the tubes in 9.25 in the Diesel versions, but haven't heard of any gearing, ujoint or axle shaft issues. Locking the front axle with that much power/weight could prove to be an explosive combination though. Another big problem (as far as Dodge is concerned) is that the winch won't fit with intercooler.

If anyone is interested, Diesel Power Magazine had an article on a one off custom Dodge Power Wagon that someone swapped a Cummins into.

I agree with most, if they'd put a diesel in that PWagon I'd buy one. As it is, there are no gassers in my family, and there more than likely never will be. It's a great idea from a forward thinking company.

Our BLM LEO's just started driving the Power Wagon. The guys absolutley love them and put them to the test every day!
The Gov. purchase price is 26k, I wish I could get one for that...
