Another issue I have started to have is the LACk of aftermarker add on's for the Power Wagon specific model. Example- ARB Bull Bar? Nope, they don't make it. I want to turn this into an expedition rig but it's not lookin good so far.

I am sure you can get a custom one made for the same price. Buck Stop makes one. http://www.buckstop.biz/

Have you checked the Dodge forums for aftermarket?

I don't understand why we're all stuck with the "If its a diesel engine, its got to weigh 1000 lbs and make 800ft-lbs of torque" mentality. It just isn't right!! Diesels in other countries make moderate amounts of power, but get excellent gas mileage and are still more than adequate for the task. Look at a land rover...for years they had a 2.5L diesel, and for awhile now the 3.0L diesel has been available. Those trucks go anywhere, can be loaded as heavy as the tires will allow, and still get 25 MPG. If you were to take a Cummins 4BTA and load it into a power wagon, you'd have a reliable 200hp/300ft-lbs on tap, and you'd get over 25 MPG. This whole "If it's a diesel, its got to be a huge diesel" mentality is not good for the acceptance of diesels to the American consumer. GM and Ford are both just barely getting the picture with the promise of a 4.5L (GM) and 4.4L (Ford) in '09 1/2 ton trucks. In my opinion, those engines are still too large.

I think it is the bigger is better way of thinking, sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't.

I too have been lusting after a full size truck, I went and test drove some of those big diesels, they sure are nice...just a little too much for my needs.

I need just a little more power and capacity...still trying to figure out what vehicle will suit that...the Tacoma is working for now. Maybe one of those "small" diesels will be the answer. Or shoe horn one into the Tacoma.

One thing I've noticed is the seemingly always a need for "just a little more room and/or power".

Stuff expands to fill the void.

I blame GM for souring the US public on diesel engines. It is known in the EV community that GM's intent with the EV-1 was to prove that EV's weren't viable. Would not surprise me to learn that they had similar intent with that abysmal converted Olds gasser.

How is the PW different re: bumper fitment?

I've heard some rumblings that both Toyota and Nissan will be providing the citizens of the US with diesel options in their light trucks by 2010. Nissan has had a very sweet 3.0L and 3.3L turbo diesel for years with great success overseas. I'm not up to date on what Toyota currently offers in a diesel, but I'm sure it's equivalent. It still wouldn't be at all hard to make some serious power with a smaller turbo diesel. If you're in the market for a very efficient light(er) truck in the coming years, hold on just a bit more....

The problem is this: the winch is recessed into the frame, soooo.... all of the aftermarket bumbers stick out a lot in order to fit an after market winch. The power wagon has a stock winch in the frame. I am looking for a bumper that will not "stick out" far past what is allready there. I am hoping that Buckstop can fabricate a suitible one.

Yeah, it is going to be looong wait for me, since I never buy new. So maybe by 2015, if Toyota does it in 2009-10?

I am sure some of the "regular" memebers get sick of my rumblings...I will state my Tacoma is by far the best truck I have ever owned...if I only used as just a exploring/camp vehicle it fits that need quite lovely. Problem is we ride dirt bikes too...the Tacoma is just beyond its' limits for my needs. The major thing that is holding me back from getting the size truck I need is, the Tacoma is paid for. It gets the job at hand done, it just suffers through it.

I still have 4 more years to wait, until I can even think about getting a new truck...we only have one income right now (me)...until the girl friend finishes school....so from now until then...I day dream...(a lot) :D

I'll say the same about the Reunel's too. Just don't know if they make what you're looking for.

I'm with you, both my Toyota trucks have been the greatest trucks ever, and I regret selling them. I will never sell another Toyota again.

I don't plan on selling the Tacoma, if I get another vehicle. It might be a 4WD Fuso converted into a camper/dirt bike transport. use that for long hauls and the Tacoma for a daily/explorer rig.

That is the only porblem with the Tacoma, a wee bit cramped, just a tad overloaded with all of the camping gear, plus dirt bike gear.

I would love another Tacoma, "Just for me". My dream: have a third vehicle dedicated to build into my adventure vehicle. Only has room for me and my dog. (Isn't that all of our dreams on this site?) :truck:
