Mitsubishi is talking about a new 3.0L turbodiesel for trucks in North America, and presumably world-wide eventually. The engine is described as a lightweight, twin turbocharged, direct injected Bluetec unit that can rev higher than the current engine. No power or torque numbers were mentioned.

The new engine will be paired with a dual clutch six speed automatic transmission. This is reported to be the first dual clutch auto in a commercial truck. The wet clutches never need to be replaced, lowering operating costs.
The combination of 3.0L engine and dual clutch automatic is reported to achieve a 10% fuel savings, compared to the current 4.9L diesel.
While the report says this engine and transmission have been under development for 30 years by Mitsubishi, I have to think that Mercedes (which owns a majority of Mitsubishi now) played a role in the new drivetrain.
