I found this the other day. Do yall think its worth fixing up? The man that owned it had 50 cars, so he would work on one for a few days, got bored, than mess with the next one. It was running and driving when he pulled the motor. the motor is in the backseat with the vavle cover and oil pan removed. What motor would be a good replacement? seriesII, IIA? hes asking $1500

Maybe - Texas truck its whole life? Looks like it hasn't been stripped for parts? Missing a lot of little/PIA stuff that will add up. Too bad the windows, taillights, etc. are broken. I would offer $750 - if it isn't rusty. Argh, they painted the galvy too! Shame. It really depends on how available these are in your area. Here it might be a $1500 truck if it is solid.

Running trucks are out there for under $5k. That being said, this is an EARLY series II from the look of things.. I'm going to guess it's a 59. If the frame and bulkhead are solid, it would be a shame to see it parted out.

the windows arent that big of a deal to me, i work at at hot rod shop and we have a glass guy, its all flat glass too. they are rare down here, i never see them. im more worried about what motor to put in her. keep the comments coming!

Mine is a 1959 build. I had to make the same decision and found a late 70's 2.25 petrol locally. Does fine but am thinking of going diesel, but not LR. Mine is not very original so I don't feel bad. This one you found has the Station Wagon badging. True station wagons are rarer than the others from what I have heard. So it might be worth keeping it original. What do you want to make it into? Rock Crawler? Putt putt for around town?

BTW without the tool some of the windows are a serious pain. I know from experience. Windscreen isn't too awful bad, rear little one will be easier with tool. Good luck!

It certainly isn't pretty enough or perfect enough to make a show queen out of her... If the engine is toast and you are a diesel guy, just clean it up, beat the dents out of it and have some fun. Drop a Cummins 3.3BT in it and call it good.

If the frame and bulkhead are solid, I'd try to talk him down a bit. There are a lot of small parts missing there that would add up if you tried to replace them. Heck just the basic seals and fasteners would add up. A functional resto would cost a bit, and then any conversions you do wuld likely triple the budget. Ask me how I know.

Another option that would be more or less drop in in one of Robert Davis' conversions. It wouldn't overpower the drivetrain, and would be relatively easy to get parts for.

It isn't a Jeep. Do not build it like a Jeep (or FJ, or Bronco, or Scout...), because the aftermarket support isn't there (which means a lot of custom parts) and the basic vehicle design (frame/body) does not lend itself to that sort of build. It's a funky old rig that rocks a whole 'nother vibe. Think safari rather than Extreme!

That appears to be a Series II and not a IIa. It's also a 4 to 5 hundred dollar truck all day long, not a 1500 truck. If it was running and driving why did he pull the motor?

Ya I want to keep it just to put around, I'm def not gonna go doin a small block chevy swap or anything. I prob won't get it if he doesn't go around $500 or $600. I don't have the time for another project like this with all my other old cars that I'm building. I'll end up sinking lots of time and money in it just to go 55 and bounce around, hahaha I still want a rover real bad, but I'm thinking I should hold off. Thanks for the comments

The round knobs on the vents and overall look makes me think it's a 59 or 60 as others have mentioned and the body panels are very straight so you've got some big costs if you want to a full resto. The IIa I just sold was very solid body, frame and bulkhead so my costs where only related to keeping in a tune and some minor things like getting the tank steamed and re-sealed. Not a great choice for road trips unless you're good with going slow and being in a warm (summer) or cold (winter) truck that is also noisy.
I loved mine but they are not for everyone. My thought on the pictures is that it's been neglected for a long time so all seals are rotted and bolts are seized. I also think 1500.00 is too much for something that lacks an engine and is not complete or straight.
