New Flip Pac on my 2008 Tacoma

Well the first rainy day in who knows how long and much to my dissapointment the flip pac is leaking from the front edge where it meets the bed of the truck!

Noted. When AT installs mine we shall pay extra attention to that area. Please post up what type/brand of silicone FRP recommends!

What if you made a rack that mounts to the lower half of the Flip-Pac, and can pivot up vertically? When you want to flip up the tent, you'd unlatch the rack from one side, pivot it up on its side, and flip up the tent as normal. The kayak would end up next to the tent.

That is what I was thinking. basically 2 hinged crossbars like on the some of the aussie trialers.

Exactly. If you wanted to get really ambitious you could have it preloaded by a torsion spring and open using the same handle as the Flip-Pac

I took the truck over to my local camper shell guy today who is super cool for helping me out. We used his fork lift to remove the pac off the truck and we checked out all the seals. The front gasket shifted a bit which was part of the problem. The main problem was no silicone in the corners and along the bottom edge of the front gasket. We loaded it up and re-installed the pac. I'll give it the spray test tomorrow.

FRP is sending me a check to cover this so i'm still happy with their customer service.

Spend last night working on my bench/storage. I'll get some pics taken tonight before i get too far along on it.

Some pics of the bench all wired up with fuse/power panel, LED lights under rear edge.

The bench is made of 5/8" MDF which i painted before covering with the indoor/outdoor carpet. The front and left edge slide(with the assistance of a mallet) into the stock rails/tracks in the tacoma. The bottom angle brackets are then bolted through the truck bed. I'm going to get it installed and then cut the top piece for the seat/doors for the storage access holes.

Been busy using the pac in Moab....flawless even in 18 degree temps camped out in white out snow on top of Austin Pass in Nevada.

That looks great!:drool: I really dig the FlipPac but have one question, has anyone had experience with them, long term, in sub zero temps?

Not long term but this will give you a good idea.

Inside the Flippac camper measured as far from the heat source as possible
49.3 degrees@11:30pm (Start Up Temp)
73.8 degrees@12:20am (High Temp)
65.1 degress@4:50am (Low Temp)

Ambient temp measured just outside the camper and off the ground about 8 feet
49.3 degrees@11:30pm (Start Up Temp)
49.3 degrees@11:30pm (High temp)
33.1 degress@4:20am (Low Temp) more like 30 degrees with the hard frost

Bottom line for me; I slept in a light weight sleeping bag, without socks:ylsmoke:, in a tent with a low of 30…. Comfortably.
