New Flip-Pac owner

New to me any way.
I called Flip-Pac to ask about a 1st gen Tacoma Flip-Pac fitting a 2nd gen Tacoma.
Along the conversation I was told they had a 2yr old FP there that would fit my 2013 Tacoma but it was already painted charcoal grey, which happened to be the color of my 4 door Taco.
I picked it up this week it fits the 5ft bed perfect but looks strange, it sits high above the cab, higher then others Ive seen.
I like it, it just looks strange up that high.

No problems with the width or bed taper? The fact it was supposed to fit the 2nd gen is the reason I got it for my 1st gen.

Congrats!

I thought that the short bed mini truck shells were all the same size?

It looks great, and I bet you got a heck of a deal. Congrats.

Any other FP owners have the same gap between roof and bottom of the over hanging FP?
all the others I've seen don't have the same large gap as mine.
I'm wondering it this came from something other then a Tacoma?

Remove the plastic bed rail caps and that will lower it about an inch.

What he said. :)
This is what most of us have done that own or have owned a FP or ATFP.
You will learn to appreciate that gap/space when the truck bed starts twisting on off camber trails.
Looks good. Enjoy.:sombrero:

Mine was def worth the >$7K cost, however I use mine every weekend...if you do not go out much, maybe not.

As far as weather. I just got back from an ice climbing trip last weekend. temp never got above freezing and she worked great. With two guys inside, condensation did form inside, but not really too bad, and it froze anyway. the tent was pretty stiff, but that's because everything was frozen, once I got back to reasonable temps, let her air out for a few hours and good as new. Still stayed warm and cozy with no heater. I LOVE mine.

How about in wind? Will it hold up like a $400 tent? Or is more along the lines of a Colman from Walmart?

Im only asking about the price because a rooftop tent is $2k and a topper another $2k, what other value does the flip-pac bring? Just trying to get some incite from an owner.

My first trip down the Mojave Road saw us in pretty good winds the first night. Held up GREAT! No flapping or noise from the tent at all. And the gusts were strong enough to rock the truck so this wasn't just a breeze. Of course it is brand new and the tent is still nice and drum tight. So the flapping some complaign about could be in our future when things loosen up.

Compared to a roof top tent it is also cavernous and has lots of square feet with stand-up head room. You'd have to get a high end RTT with the enclosed annex to achieve the same enclosed head room. Also, set-up and take down of a Flippac is MUCH faster than a RTT much less one with the large annex. No spring wires at the windows, travel cover fitting/strapping, etc.

I looked at RTT's, trailer's, pop-up campers, etc. Everything is a compromise. After about two years of research and defining what we wanted the Flippac on a full size short bed truck was the best fit. That is definitely not true for everyone. In fact I acknowledge that this combo is pretty rare. But we love it.
