In North America, customers can choose from several engines, including the proven 3.5-litre EcoBoost or a powerful diesel option; each features rear-wheel drive and at least 25 percent better fuel economy than a comparable E-Series. Multiple roof heights and wheelbases will be available. North American Transit vans will be manufactured in Kansas City, alongside the Ford F-150.

These should be on sale here about a year from now. How long until Chris develops a UJOINT kit converting a diesel Transit to 4WD? :wings:

The European version of the new Transit will offer AWD and 4X4 (presumably part time 4x4 with low range) as options. So all you need to do is buy the parts and import them to USA...you know, new transmission, new transfer case, new drive shafts, new front suspension, maybe new subframe to hold the front suspension...no problem!

A similar conversion for a Sprinter costs upwards of $20K from Whitefeather 4x4. http://whitefeatherconversions2.com.p9.hostingprod.com/home

I think they nailed the new connect, but the aesthetics of the Transit are totally not doing it for me. I'll take the UK version any day over that monstrosity. I wish them well with it, but I can't help but think that a customer base that's been addicted to the tried and true econoline for so long will have a hard time transitioning over to something so radically different.

If it has a frame....... I'd love to get my hands on it!

That would be nice but I doubt it will be that easy. The Sprinter guys haven't had much luck with this.

I agree, that connect is really cool!!! The big one though, hopefully it grows on us. At least we still have the E series till 2015 and the cutaway until 2019!

Quigley has announced that they plan on offering a 4x4 conversion for the full size Transit. The conversion will retain the stock van's independent front suspension and ride height. No word on price or delivery.
