New guy gas can questions

So now that this thread is back from the dead.... I still have a question or two... I realize that the Scepter cans are no longer available, and neither are the Nato style steel cans. What cans readily available on the market are capable of being mounted horizontally? Say on a roof rack. And if none, then what are you guys resorting to, since the "good" stuff isn't available any longer?(links to buy these are appreciated)

I'm trying to put together a group buy of the GOOD MFC cans.

They're out there, they're just stupid expensive. This link just came in my email:

WOW $269.00 for a pair? I have 3 for $25.00 each or $60.00 for all 3 + a fuel spout if you buy all 3. Plus shipping from El Paso, TX.
2 have dents in the corner

The green one already sold

These don't look as nice as the pair for $269.00 but they still hold gas like they do.

Things are getting crazy

Someone needs to make these and just exclude Ca from the buy list .

That's the truth. We can thank those morons for all of this craziness... But then again here in Tn things are just as foolish...

$30 for a banged-up surplus can? $269 for a pair of OD metal cans? Geez. What is the world coming to?

It looks like I could probably retire on the stash of new-in-box red Wedco non-CARB cans sitting in my basement, still in their original packaging. Should have bought more of 'em, I guess.

True dat!!

When we went on the Mojave Road trip, I brought along a Kolpin fuel pak that has a CARB "spillproof" nozzle.... The idea being that people should not be spilling gasoline on the ground, right?

I couldn't get the damn thing to work without leaking fuel everywhere. I gave up and borrowed a jerry jug from someone and transfered the fuel into that, spilling more fuel on the ground.

Got the fuel from the pre-CARB jerry jug into the XJ without spilling a drop.

Best to keep the RotoPax nozzle up. And keep an eye on the seals.
I had some small leakage problems when installed horiz. on an ATV. The plastic caps will crack and leak when they get very old. I wouldn't rely on them in a life or death situation/expedition type use.

CARB "childproof" nozzles are to prevent unrestrained flow if the can is knocked over.
Apparently there were some accidents/lawsuits. One more reason the gas can manufacterers will not make non-CARB containers for non-military use.

CARB also claims they are spillproof, but everyone I've tried, major spillage was the order of the day.
