Hey folks, new guy here. I'm from Central Texas. Just picked up a '93 Suburban K2500 with a 454/4L80E. All stock right now with 265/75/16 Nitto Terra Grapplers. I'm not a big offroader and this will be my daily driver and tow rig for my small used car lot and my vintage dragster, so it won't be heavily modified.
I'd like to eventually replace the front & rear bumpers. I'll probably build my own though. I have a winch on a hitch that is on my car hauler trailer, so I will probably fab up a front receiver hitch for the Suburban so I can use the winch on the front or rear, and for my trailer. I'd like to put a small lift on it and possibly go a little bigger on the tires, but being a daily/hauler I don't want to go too big. I'm thinking of building a top rack with some lights and what not. It's very clean and in great shape. It's a conversion with wood grain, loaded with leather, cd changer, tv, vcr, mood lights, etc. Not that I needed all of that, and I would have been fine with vinyl bench seat and rubber floors, but it sure is comfortable! The 454 is all stock. I'll most likely build a new dual exhaust system for it, add a K&N Filter, etc. It's already got an auxilary oil cooler and trans cooler with fan so I'm covered there. I'm going to go through the whole front end this weekend to tighten it up. I got 14mpg on a trip down to South Texas for Xmas, so I can't complain too much. My other truck is a '94 K1500 with a 4.3 V6/5-spd and it barely gets better mileage than the Suburban. If the 454 ever craps out I'll probably swap in a 6BT Cummins or a 6.0 LQ4.
I'm new to all of this stuff as most of my previous vehicles were old hot rods and customs from the 20's-50's. I sold my '56 F100 daily driver recently and bought the '94 K1500 pickup, but it couldn't handle the trailer with the V6, so I got the big Suburban last week. Once I sell the K1500 I can put a little bit of money into the Suburban. My offroading experience has only been farting around at the ranch and the beach, and some occasional mudding over the years. I've only had a few other 4x4's, one was an '88 Ranger, and a '96 F250 PSD 4x4, and now the K1500 and K2500. I'm a chassis fabricator, hot rod builder, metal shaper, and all around gearhead. I'd like to make a trek out to West Texas one of these days, just me and myself on the road, camping in the Suburban, etc. I look forward to being here and being a part of the community.
So here's my '93 Suburban... (Pics are from the for sale ad, I'll take new pics soon, weather has been cruddy 'round here)
