Today I replaced my factory subwoofer.
Which required quite a bit of work, one in which was removing the 3rd row seats, and thanks to everyone in this thread
http://expeditionportal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=140236 was very simple! Thanks again guys!!!
Among the 3rd row I had to remove the side trims which I thought was gonna be a pita, but I was surprised to find out in wasn't as bad as I thought.
Here's the factory sub which was completely blown out
Also, found something strange...the speaker cable was not hooked into the sub, but rather dangling in the enclosure. This worries me...alot! The reason being in that my rig has some electrical gremlins, and this is not the first time i've found something unplugged. My driver door light was unplugged when I bought it, inwhich I didn't find that out until I got it home, long story short, I plugged it back in and it blew the fuse that takes it out of dealer mode, which disables tje fuel pump, radio, lights, sunroof...among many other things.
My fingers are crossed on this one, and hope that the sub wasn't unplugged because of a short, but because it was blown. However, I can't imagine why someone would take the time and effort to get to the sub just unplug it if it were blown...why not replace it.
Anywho...here is some more pics of my install
I got this pyle sub off ebay for $15.00 and free shipping with a $10 ebay coupon...score!!!
Now for anyone replacing their sub. I scoured the internet to try and find out what type of plug went into the sub and I couldn't find anything. I ended up ordering a general speaker adapter for mitsu/toyota. I didn't want to get all the way into the install just to find out i didn't have anything to hook up the sub, and would have to splice into the factory harness. With luck...the sub just uses the same harness as all the other speakers.
Heres the speaker adapter.
