New guy with gen3 montero

That unit looks good. Fits the fancy high-brow wood decor :)
No clue about the factory amp on the 3rd Gen's.

I did notice some other issues that im having. The least important is a firmware update that will allow playback via android through usb connection. The main issue im having is static when I turn my headlights on. I have led headlights that use a driver ballast and im pretty sure thats whats causing it so I will switch back to my halogens tomorrow to see if that solves it.

But in the meantime has anyone else had the same problem with led/hid and radio frequency interference?

I've updated my Montero and my Volvo to HID's with ballasts, but they are not LED. In both vehicles I am running bluetooth connections to my iPhone. The Montero has an aftermarket headunit, but the Volvo has the factory headunit with a GROM Audio smartphone connection kit. Neither has any RF noise issues.

I can't imagine LED lights actually causing a problem, they are more efficient by far than Halogen or HID xeons, and I should think that efficiency would produce less RF noise. Did you use a specific harness adapter that plugs your new headunit into the existing wiring harness? If so, you really shouldn't be getting any noise unless you tapped into a power wire that is coming off the alternator instead off the battery (indirectly, but I think you know what I mean).

Yeah I used the metra 70-7003 thats vehicle specific for the montero. Intalled everything correctly. The only 2 things that come to mind would be improper illumination wire to dimmer wire. The metra harness that connects to the jvc harness were different metra=orange jvc=orange/white...the other would be my ground but I think icwould have alt noise all the time. Heres where I grounded it

Well problem solved. I wouldnt have been able to sleep if I had left this until tomorrow, so I went outside, pulled the led headlights and swapped em for halogens and no more static. My radio signal is clear as can be...well for having a broken mast anyways. So I will order some new color temp halogens and call the leds a loss. I'd rather have a nice stereo than bright leds.

Thanks man.

I think i'll prob keep on there for a couple weeks but this is what it looks like in the sun...like it was spray painted lol. I found out there is a huge difference between the rattle can and using a professional sprayer.

My hood did the same thing, I thought it was just my inability to spray. Glad I'm not the only one. Do you have any idea what it would cost to put down vinyl?

Lol nope not just you. I tried like hell to get it on there even and there was just no way. Ive read the only way to cover large areas with plastidip is with a sprayer. I would hope that it wouldnt cost anymore than $100 to put down some vinyl, and honestly it would be hard for me to pay that much.

Thanks man!

Heres all the leds that I purchased and will fit everything but your turn/flashers. They require a new flasher relay or resistors spliced into the harness for them to be error free.

Here a pic of the map lights with the cover off I cant find a pic of the hatch light. If I can remember correctly I just used a very small flathead to get the covers off. You could use a butter knife or anything thin enough to get between the cover and the housing and just pop it off.

Already done! Much brighter it feels like. Didn't snap any pics yet, but it looks pretty much like yours. Still waiting on the other type of bulbs to come in from amazon though.

Also, how much light do the led reverse lights put out? I can't see **** at night when trying to backup due to my tinted windows...
