New GXV Fuso based vehicle

Renee confirmed they dont care about the platform on which the box is built... SO, if you are concerned about emissions or lack of power or lack of low range, etc.. just take them another truck and have that box built on to it... Would save you a ton of $$$ too..

At that point, I may shy away from an FG and lean towards a 19,500 GVW NPR with a Dodge Ram 3500 driveline installed into it (Cummins, 46RE, NV241DHD, Dana 60 front, Dana 70/80 hybrid rear) and you are pretty well setup ;-)

Mid 90;s Rams can be bought well under five grand and same for older NPR's..... just not sold on the 40-50k for a new truck and they really arent that good, then you put over 100 grand into a box to go on the back and it has low power, no transfer case and is saddled with emission crap that kills your mileage and keeps you in the US and Canada.,..

Personally I think the GXV prices are really high. For a lot less money you could buy a Fuso (there is. A used Fg with super singles, manual, and low range for sale on Expo for around 30k) and:
- head to All Turrain Warrriors at sportsmobile west and buy a front bumper, new springs, new leafs, etc
- add a brand new 13 foot Alaskan camper with no cab over (or go to Unimog exchange and buy the used one there for $14k)
- add a ute back bed or similar

In total you end up with a rig that is just as capable or more so considering the one above has a stock suspension. Also, with the Alaskan you get the added benefit if being able to drop the camper (aka base camp) and use the truck separately. Other than style I don't see in practical ability what GXV or Earthcruiser are providing to demand such high costs. However if the GXV version with a non stock suspension came in at $100k or less than it might make sense.

hello all

Yes, the cost on these pro built rigs seems high, but my opinion you get what you pay for and great quality. pretty much built to last a lifetime. I bought a new 08 fuso and did my own expedition camper, but its a traditional wood frame build, did the leaf springs and aluminus bumpers and racks. although I love my truck and that's what I could afford, and had no troubles in the 3 years I traveled in it. it clearly is not in the same leage as some of these pro jobs, a lot goes into those rigs. And tackling doing your own is not for the faint of heart. Theres lots of decisions to make that could be costly if done wrong. With that said though I guess Im into my expedition camper for less than a third the asking price for the new gxv fuso camper.
I had a unimog camper before this one and it had a foam core box, I could mount the spare tire right to the box it was so tough. I have to be very carefull with my new rig, I hit a tree or something alittle too hard I would hate to see what would happen. But im out there and glad for it, and certainly wouldn't hesitate to buy a new gxv if I could afford one. I am also disappointed the new fuso chassis only comes in an automatic, runs on urea, and has no low range, in that respect im glad I got an 08 but would have been far better with an 07 before the dpf.

Cheers and enjoy the wilds Lehel
In the end its getting out there with what you can.

You, son, are a genius. Who the heck would want a 3.5 inch thick composite box when they could have a camper that measures its wall thickness in metal gauge? :sombrero:

Haha yes the Alaskans are heavy but I was picking a pop up with hard sides. My point is that there are cheaper alternatives and of course other options to the alaskan. That being said I do think its great more companies are coming on the US market. Can't wait to see the new All Terrain Warriors offering.
