Great photos, thanks for posting them.

For people with bad hips, can you please tell us the distance between the ground and your rear end when you're actually sitting in the chair?

Also, when you're sitting, are your knees higher than your rear end?

Still looking for a high chair that's easy to get out of with bad hips. 15" is a great height.

P.S. I want to live wherever that is that you're living. Are you in the market for four feet of snow?

Honu, looks good. I can't really afford more chairs right now. Is that Velcro on the chair to accept a pillow in the future?

Oh and if you get a chance, can you show a picture of the 2 chairs in their bags side by side?

Thank you

at just shy of 6 foot I have long legs I rode a 59 road bike if that helps or makes sense and my post would be maxed at height :)

in the original my knees are higher for sure
in the sunset I am closer to level but my knees are slightly up

the lowest part of the chair seems to measure at 12.5 inches off the ground ? but that is the lowest part in the middle of the chair at the back the front in the middle at the lowest part is about 16 inches hope that makes sense the front to the back as you can see kinda slopes down so about 3.5 inch slope going back
if I lean forward in the chair some the front drops to about 15 inches since it has some flex and the lowest middle part is kinda the shape a bit I think the sides might be a inch taller and its hard to measure myself in it cause i might be moving around some but sure that is close enough

its easy to get out of but its not like a larger typical camp chair with arms easy ?
would be fun to get some Phoenix folks at a park area one day and all bring there chairs and give ideas on them with pics :)

hope that helps

its to hot here in PHX in the summers sorry ya can keep your snow I can drive to it just how I like it :) but I miss the islands where it never got this bloody hot so in the summer here when its 120 I might think about trading for that snow when the asphalt is melting :)

yeah no idea about the velcro the original sketches had this blue pillow thing ?
I have a hammock pillow I put on it with a bungie it has attached and worked good I kinda think I might make one
with a rounded outside if I could out of something ? and put velcro on the back side :)

the bag is cut a bit longer by a few inches than needs but fits in super easy so I folded over the end a touch to show the pack length more than the bag length

I should so it next to the alps chair I have for some perspective :) ahahahahah but still so small

Thanks for the photo. Looks like it packs down pretty small. Not much bigger for a lot bigger chair. Enjoy it!

I just tried a bunch of these out at Canoecopia show. Maybe I was expecting too much, but I was not too impressed with the comfort. The taller one with the high back was nice, but at the price, I'll just keep my current chairs. I did like the really low one as it allows you to stretch out your legs, but unless you excel at Yoga, you might have to roll sideways out of it :)

The cots however, seemed excellent. Might still want a pad on top, perhaps a thick sleeping bag is enough, but seemed really nice. There were several heights - might be a good alternative to building a sleep platform for a camper. Thread Hi-jack over:coffeedrink:

Yeah, not a fan. Tried them out and the shorter one, it digs into my armpits when I lean back.

Cool small packing chairs though.

6'4" and 300 pounds here. Sat in the helinox camp chair and have to say that it is so much more comfortable than my rei flex lite chair. It's almost twice the price and us much taller and does pack larger. I have that 20% off coupon at rei so I was seriously debating getting it. The flex lite is such an awesome chair and has done me fine for years but I find myself sneaking in to my friends big chairs. Hmmmm....

I tried the Sunset Chair today and was impressed with how easy it was to get out of it with bad hips. You can push back against the legs to help you get up; the legs are strong enough for that. I found the head rest odd, angled too far back. It would be useful if you put something like a rolled up towel behind your neck for support. I also found the chair fairly narrow, a bit tight. I would describe myself as large but not humongous.

I'm trying to figure out what this chair would be useful for (looking for a reason to buy it).
Kayak camping: space in the hatches is limited so if I were to carry something extra it would be a Helinox cot, which I already have.
Car camping: I find an old-fashioned webbed lawn chair more comfortable than a Helinox chair.

So what's a good reason to buy the Sunset Chair?

By the way, how come I don't see the webbed lawn chairs in the stores any more?

for me less weight and space in the rig since there are 4 of us stuff adds up quickly
they are handy to bring along when we go places like the park etc...

it needs a pillow to be sleeping comfy but is ok without it :) using my camp pillow so far and its quite nice

whats funny is how many chairs dont have head support that are much larger like the web ones etc.. for me head support is a huge deal so I can totally relax

Yes, I agree about the head support, Honu. It makes a big difference. It makes sense that you want to save space in your vehicle with four people. I'm a solo traveler with a very small car so space is a consideration. That could be the reason I was looking for to buy this chair!

It looks like REI doesn't carry the Sunset Chair. The 20% sale ends today.

I thought the REI only had the camp model ? kinda looks like the sunset but not quite as tall backed

I am going to try to make some kinda pillow thing but I am also going to try to take a pool noodle the kind with the hole through the center and cut it to width then cut a slit so it can kinda slide down on top and see how that works ?

but a small half round kinda pillow that could adjust up and down on the velcro will be the best long term solution on those :)

the more I have gone lighter weight etc... the more I am liking it and does save some wear and tear on the vehicle not having it so loaded all the time easier for me even my 6 year old can help carry things easier and help with more setup options etc..... :)

I'm surprised how many don't like the collapsible camping sling chairs. I've had mine for 9 years and I love the built in can holder in the arm. Very comfy and sturdy. I think it was maybe $20 at Walmart (don't recall where I bought it, could have been Sportsman's Warehouse too).
