New Jeep Pick Up to be unveiled...The Gladiator

I had a 1973 Gladiator (Kaiser or AMC?, right near the changeover) J-4700 for a while. I paid $300 for it, but had to tow it away on my car trailer. This was the one-ton model, long bed with a sturdier frame than the half-tons had. The frame was similar to the largest Jeep ever produced; The Five Quarter. This may have been the last year for the Gladiator, until the current tooting about a new one. I eventually canibalized parts of the drivetrain, like the Dana 60-2 rear axle to go in my son's 1973 Jeep C-104. This one had the thicker axle tubes for higher loading, and 35 spline axle shafts.
Anyway, a lot of conjecture above. Let's wait and see if Fiat has done their homework. 7500lb towing is pretty puny compared with any 2500/250 to 3500/350 produced during the last two decades.

Yessir, no doubt in my mind, Jeep's gonna sell boat loads of them.

I bet you can get a new power wagon cheaper than a rubicon gladiator. For me the power wagon would be an easy choice.

I'm pretty sure you can get a Power Wagon (Tradesman with PW option) cheaper than a Rubicon Wrangler now so I agree the Scrambler is gonna prob cost even more.

I'm calling it a Scrambler since that is what it should have been called in the first place.

So it's a good thing it's not even comparable to or in the same class as any 3/4 or 1 ton truck from the past or now huh? However it is very competitive with other similar midsize trucks....in it's class

My wife is not an automotive enthusiast, but does like vehicles with a distinct appearance. She had her eye on the upcoming Jeep truck. But, the other day she said:

Her: Ryan, I don't think I like the Jeep truck.
Me: What don't you like about it?
Her: The bed is too short.

Neither of us are fans of crew cab short bed trucks, so that, (along with the expected high price), kills the deal for us.

thats a good name for that jeep, 'cause its all just for show.

I agree. Judging from the vehicles in my neighborhood there is a much bigger market for vehicles that LOOK like they can go anywhere off road than for vehicles that are actually taken off road.

Same with my neighbourhood. It's not shocking, given that there is nowhere to go off roading leagally anhywhere near where I live.

We have the blinged out vehicles here for sure. But we also have a lot for people that actually use them too.

Couldn't live where you do @rkj__ ...I can be on dirt 10 minutes from both the house and work. Often times if I have long lunch break...I'll go do some "micro-overlanding". :D

See people here using the Hell out of the Gladiator. Normally don't care for 5' beds...think I could make it work...since I already have a nice little 5X8' trailer...which works like a fullsize truck bed without having to have a fullsize truck.

Just google "Idaho Jeep Clubs" and a ton of stuff comes up.

I think they are getting 12 to 13, what I thought anyways? Maybe the 2020 models will get an 8 speed for a little improvement. My powerstroke only gets 14.5mpg, when you factor fuel expense and increased maintenance the 12mpg would probably be cheaper.

WOW.
I can't even fathom how people can live with 12mpg. That blows my mind. I just filled up here for $4.45/gal, and that's not even the most I've paid.

The diesel gladiator should be 25-28, that alone makes it worth buying compared to freaking TWELVE!

You keep posting that stuff and Idaho is going to get crowded.

At 15k mile per year the average guy is going to spend an extra 150 bucks a month between 24mpg and 12mpg. If you dont need the extra capability then yeah I can see not wanting to spend the 150 extra.

Ha ha! Too late...last I heard we have a 1000 people moving here to the valley every month.

Weekends get a little crowded at the popular spots. During the week...no one is out.

Normally I don't go out on the weekends, but was out yesterday...still hardly anyone out. There was a dirt bike club cleaning up some ribbon from a recent race, but that was pretty much it.

Desert season is here. I am 30 minutes from this trail head. Can toss together an easy 80-100 mile loop...or make it endless. Just need enough fuel... :D

Everything from wide open to little canyons. Off-roader's paradise...why I wanted to move here.

On the way home, found some petroglyphs yesterday too.
