Yup, I think the pricing will be critical as well. I think it will be a 60K truck in Rubicon guise. Personally when comparing it to a ZR2 or TRD Pro for several thousands less, it'll make it a tough sell...

I don't think Jeep needs to compete with Chevy on price to sell a lot of Gladiators. You can't just install a cheap lift in a Colorado, and run 37s.

Agree.

I know this requires broad appeal to all the soccer moms and yoga instructors (else it becomes unobtainium), but the J series trucks are perfect, visually.

Seems like retro styled vehicles do well. See Camaros, Mustangs, and Challengers driving around all the time. And mostly with female drivers.

Though the Willys/CJ inspired front clip is more recognizable to the general public than the Kaiser. A M715 inspired would be more for the enthusiast. Was thinking they might of gone that way since we would concepts pop up over the years.

But then you'd be into a gladiator for what? 70k? You could do a lot to a ZR2 or TRD with that 20K. Or nothing and save the extra dough and go drive them. Those trucks seem to do pretty okay off road in stock form. I know they would exceed my requirements. But, maybe that's just me.

What I'm learning, from watching all the new off road marketed vehicles coming onto the market, is that there must be a lot of people out there that make a lot more money than me, and use very different thought processes when making their spending decisions.

I'm done with being outraged every time is see the price of a new 4x4 vehicle.

If you want to travel off road for under $25k, and not worry about undesired air bag events, just buy a side by side, and tow it behind your wife's minivan until you get to the dirt. You can probably cover your weekend overlanding route in a day, so you won't even need the tent and sleeping gear. You'll be back home in time to watch Sunday football, and all the likes roll in on your Instagram pictures.

Yup, lots of trucks for big bucks. Doesn't bother me. It just makes me think I'm a cheap SOB, lol But, I'm good with that.

I'll be like Maddmatt and look at the lease returns in a few years...

In 2-3 years, by the time the first lease returns are getting back to the dealers, the Titan will be tired (it has 165k on it now), the price will be right, and I will 100% be shopping for an unnecessary, lightly used, ex-school pickup, faux-leather, backup camera and video game installed Jeep "truck". And once a year I will take the leaves to the dump. I can't wait, because there is very little else on the market today that actually appeals to me.

60k for the truck... maybe 2-3 G's for a lift, couple grand for the wheel / tire's plus install? I dunno, I thought I might be close. Maybe I'm wrong. Totally guesstimated. I'm guesstimating on the price of the truck too.

I'm with some other people. I don't make enough, and if I did wouldn't spend it on that anyway. My "cheap lift" was my Rubicon Express lift I put on my TJ that cost 200 dollars. I've got a full OME HD kit on my truck now, which I think is a great system, it wasn't more than 1k.

Jeep has always been a disappointment to me and to many out there. The CJ's had the Dana 27 to Dana 30 front axles with the rear axle having a nut on it, and then Dana 35's. Later, Dana 44's in the rear along with the usual Dana 30 up front. Then the JK with Dana 44's but, with the Dana 30 C-brackets up front and skinny axle tubes. All 'geared' for the daily drivers out there, going to the mall, or, winter traveling. Dana 44's all around with beefy brackets for coil springs and control arms, adjustable control arms, thicker tubes, minimal electronics, manual windows, removable top, well, it wouldn't sell. But to me it would. I have a built 2004 LJ, 4.5 lift, 35" tires, ARB's front and rear, Currie HP Dana 44 up front, Atlas transfer case. Well, that's what I'd tell them to build~!

Of course, it's not like anyone is spending $60k - they're just making monthlies, and will likely upgrade to something else before they have even paid it off.
In that regard, a vehicle always just costs $x per month, and you can have a new one every few years...

Absolutely.

If the folks here were truly representative of the typical car buyer, there would be no automotive industry as we know it.

The fancy dealerships and what not are not geared to people who buy vehicles for very long periods of time.

In a sense, poor financial decisions by a majority of people provide the rest of us with some benefits, although they may be short term.

My 'ultimate' dream would be a small-window J200/Gladiator, built on a modern truck frame, modern drivetrain, etc.

I like it and will probably own one in 4-5 years. Great off road capability with extra cargo room. Very appealing to anyone that has tried to go camping or exploring with 4 people in a Wrangler.

Regardless of price, towing, etc, let’s start talking about mods for this.

I’m think a Maltec or AluCab insert or full bed replacement. Extra water tanks and fuel tanks underneath.
