What I use with a twist...

I use a B&D Snake Light (2 actually) in my Jeep. They are dual purpose for me. Of course they can be used as originally designed as a work light but until it is needed mine are attached to various locations in my roll cage and are used for map lights. Works like a champ! If anyone wants a pic of how I have them attached just let me know.

How do you guys think it would compare to the ARB Adventure light?

http://www.arb.com.au/arb-4x4-adventure-light.php

Anyone used both?

I've been using the ARB Adventure Light for the past 1 1/2 years. It puts out an incredible amount of light for the rated 12W/1A/12V draw. But lately it won't start up unless the truck is running & pumping current...then after it's glowing it'll run on the truck or trailer batteries no problem sans engine running. This symptom started a couple months ago...don't know if the "ballast" is weak or what. It's frustrating when in camp and I need the light to have to connect the 7-pin from the trailer to the truck...fire up the truck to allow the ARB to fully light. That's why I'll probably order one of the 84-LED lights and give it a go. Should be darn bright!

Oooo...I'll send an e-mail to ARB USA and see what they have to say about this and report back.

I found this post on Exploroz that appears to be directly related to the problem you're having. It apparently is caused by loose connections that cause internal resistance and require higher power in order to light up.

See here.

Let me know if ARB has a formal response to your inquiry. I'm interested in getting this light, but I'm not interested in obtaining the light with extra "baggage" down the road.

Thanks so much for the input.

Hey Mate here are the pics requested. It was late when I got home so here is some flash photography at its best!

The first pic is of: Front passenger / driver usage and is attached to the center roll bar with 3 quick release rubber-band mounts. It work great for the co-pilot to read maps, etc and when I am driving I will use it from time to time to illuminate the interior or use the "flash light mode" to direct light into the center Tuffy box at night.

The second pic is of: Rear passenger - rear compartment usage and is attached to the side roll-bar. I am move it to the center of the rear roll-bar to aid me with getting into the rear Tuffy box at night etc. That location will still allow a rear passenger to have a flexible light source when required.

It answers the mail for some interior lighting, map reading, etc., but with a simple flick of the wrist they are outside and performing their original functions as an adjustable work light.

I only put them in there in Nov but have had excellent results. They stay in position without movement or coming loose due to vibrations that can be encountered in picture three. (That one is just for fun) Of course over time the rubber mounting bands will deteriorate and need to be replaced from time to time.

Great shots in the jeep.

I've been using a craftsman floresent with the cord, works great but the cord is a hassle. I've been tempted to buy the cordless led. Maybe it's time.
