This week I finish all the jobs refurbishing the knucles and portals And I was cheking all the parts I remove and for sure there is a lot of thinks I found it not ok, the real think makes me hungry is this truck soupose to be well mantained about this thinks , This is one of the reasons I bought it, but any way....I atach some pics about how the pivot bearing was mounted.....there is missing a few rollers....not nice, also one of the axles had the cardan damage
From now I will bring whit me all the tools and one full Portal, because this is to complicated to go somwere, next week we start to be free here in my area so I will do a proper test on highway some more km....

I allrready test the truck , just 30 km but I reach 100 km/h to se how is now the riding and I can say is no anymore "parkinson" on the stering , I understand now many thinks about unimogsIMG_20200501_184405_copy_1040x780.jpgIMG_20200501_190127_copy_1040x780.jpg

yes, I found minimum 6 or seven, plus 2 full broken, this make me very hungry whit the seller because they where repairing this area before to sell it, the mechanic who fix it is a terrorist....is dangerous, I was driving whit extrange feeling on the stering 15 k km and this is my fault.

Glad to you have found the issue , although it would have taken quite a few hours to fix,

are you going to do all the corners?

on the upside, if you rebuild it, you know it it is 100%,

nice work with the custom tools(y)

Hopefully you have a good run with the rebuilt corners, it's always nice to fix an issue in the shed than on the road.

hopefully we see a little more relaxation in the near future, so you can hit the road.

we were due to head of again in march, but its going to be a little longer yet over here, maybe June or July.. who knows:(

welcome Jocke, if you need some info let me know, Is a long wat to build your own camper, looks like you never end it, but at the end is a good reward.
last parts caming this week stright from hellgeth where the new Koni Shocks, They also sugest the seting for it and this for me is a good assistance, thanks for that.
to swap the shocks is a job you think can be done in a few hours....but some times when they where fited 40 years ago the bolts are welded....the only way is or warm it , I dont like ...or cut it...but at the end today I think I can test the truck whit all the upgradesIMG_20200512_160427_copy_1040x780.jpgIMG_20200512_122455_copy_1040x780.jpgIMG_20200512_122502_copy_780x1040.jpgIMG_20200511_133831_copy_1040x780.jpgIMG_20200512_122749_copy_1040x780.jpgIMG_20200512_181349_copy_780x1040.jpgIMG_20200512_181349_copy_780x1040.jpgIMG_20200512_180340_copy_1040x780.jpg

Looks very nice. yeah what a pain can something be that looks so simple.

Why are the plates on the inside of the portals so shiny? What are they for, why did you need you need to replace those..
You like allen style bolts? shiny to Stainless?

Do you know what the final drive ratio in the portals is?

There's a story to these plates... Back in the middle of the thread I think... From memory they're a well designed mod to increase the oil capacity in the portals to assist with heat dissipation.. :)

Thanks Jostt! It is indeed an overwhelming project, but I hope that tackling one thing at a time will work out. I keep an eye on many things, including your build, and one day I might have a question.
It'll be interesting to hear what you think of the new Koni shocks. I think that shocks and suspension is usually an undervalued upgrade. thanks again!

bad luck today, not every day is sunday, yesterday I did a few km, arround 80, and I was quite happy whit all the things I did on the truck, but this morning Was oil from the rear portals on the rims....I remove all and I discover the big oil seals are lacking oil, I allrready replace it when I rebulid the rear portals just weeks ago, so....one can be my mistake...but two is rare, the point is I bought last year instead of oem from Mercedes seals , the ones from Corteco as a sustitutive replacement parts...the look is exactly the same, and all the numbers, tipical from the seals....but something is wrong onnthe rubber compare whit the original from MB....so ordered and I hope Monday I will have it, for me was a bit surprasing the difference on the price, 20€ vs 80 the MB ones.....any way I can recomend to not use Corteco on the seals for the hub....IMG_20200514_122731_copy_1040x780.jpgIMG_20200514_163647_copy_1040x780.jpgIMG_20200514_163655_copy_1040x780.jpgIMG_20200514_163632_copy_1040x780.jpg
