New Nissan Truck to be Unveiled June 11th

It looks like when you pull the outer part of your eyes outwards and upwards to look Asian. We know Nissan is an Asian brand, Nissan!

And it's WAY too curvilinear. The designer left out every rugged linear and taught look. The main lines are too soft. This looks more like a boat.

The taillights are out of proportion. I'm not a fan of the extended wrap around.

A spoiler on a truck? Really? Go back to Art Center and stay there.

I see an actual shifter! But they kept the electronic 4x4 selector switch.

Think Honda Ridgeline.

Overall an extremely poor attempt to redesign a rugged pickup. The new design direction of Nissan I have never been a fan of.

Bring back the 2nd gen Frontier. I'd say the best design of all Frontiers.

While they could've screwed it up worse and made it even more feminine it looks OK and has a frame still. Now I just wish I could buy a brand new Xterra ProX4 and preserve it for the next 5 years so when they go after that next at least I'll have a new 'truck' to drive for another 10 years.

As for diesels, personally I think they're overrated in this day and age. A gas motor is cheaper, easier to service and will last 300k miles with proper care. Personally I don't get the diesel infatuation anymore (I used to be a diesel lover back in the 90s especially the Ford 7.3PSD).

I think the MPGs numbers are why people lust after the diesel, second is that they are different and limited, third is the power they offer. I don't know the price difference in diesel vs mogas down in the lower 48 but up here the price per gallon makes the mpg difference irrelevant in the wallet.

edited to add that the MPG cost may be the same but the range is more likely longer with diesel. So if that matters, and in expedition rigs it does.

God, I hope this isn't true. Their main competition is the Tacoma. If they hope to sway buyers in their direction, they'll need to keep up. That being said, if they manage to keep a similarly sized truck, put it on a lighter but equally strong frame, and use a similar suspension setup, then they could have a winner. Couple that with a good diesel option, then that would be one hell of a platform.

2nd gen has a spoiler too...

Ah jeez that's right. Although it has more of a tailgate moulding look to it rather than an integrated spoiler. It looks like it belongs due to the bed liner plastic coming over the sides of the bed with a subtle hint of aesthetic. Not a blatant spoiler. That's where they got it wrong on the newer gen. All in my opinion though...

I'm a fan of the current styling of my 2012 Frontier and the 2010 Xterra I had before the truck (and the previous Pathfinders before they were neutered into whatever you want to call the new ones). That said, they could have done much worse with the redesign and seem to be following along with many of the styling cues that other manufacturers are. I don't get the tailgate spoiler or whatever you want to call it that many of the new trucks have. I have always had a shell of some type on my trucks and the tailgate spoilers that are everywhere it seems now just get in the way of the rear hatches or make the profile look all jacked up if the shell is designed to extend out to the lip of the spoiler. The current F150 is a perfect example with its bloated tailgate lip/spoiler/whatever. I would love to see the actual new truck before making final judgement. Even with all the pics, sometimes the real thing looks different when you start walking around it.

I bet that spoiler is to help it's drag coefficient / EPA fuel economy ratings.

All this talk about the new NP300 overseas, witch is a type of D23. Many markets never lost the D22 so this would make sence that they would up-date the little workhorse.
Kind of how VW kept the old bug and type 2 bus in many markets much longer than we hed here. http://www.nissan.co.za/en/web/models/NP300/home/hpage.htm
If you look many of these markets that kept the NP300 also had the choice of the new Navra based on the D40 frontier we have.http://www.nissan.co.za/en/web/models/NAVARA/Exterior/115465_386549.htm
I think they are lumping the Navara name and the NP300 together in some markets and going to call/introduce the (new) Frontier globally.
Now what will we get as for a new D40 or replacement. I hope they keep it edgy. Nissan's trucks all had that safari patrol look to them even the old wd21 pathfinders, wd22 xterra's with their tailgate budge, and even the R50 and R51 pathfinders had that look to them. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nissan_Navara

I think the idea is to distance themselves a bit from the midsizers and go back to offering a proper compact truck. The market is there- the Ranger was selling about 50k/year on an old platform. If Nissan can bring a compact truck formula, with modern powertrains, and undecut the competition on price, there might be a case there. One of the problems I see, however, is that the D22 isn't exactly light- the trucks were way heavier than comparable Tacomas, and about as heavy as the current Taco. Also the Torsion bar IFS, while simple and sturdy, wasn't as refined as the 1st Taco. Perhaps simple and sturdy is what the plan is, though. I wonder at what point the co-development with Mitsu ended. The Triton is still pretty much a compact truck.
I guess we'll see on Friday....

I was sitting in Nissan HQ last week for some meetings and wasn't told the next Frontier will look like the truck shown...
;)

Don't think Nissan will drop the Mid size truck in favor of a smaller pup truck.. There could be 3 trucks in the line up...

Just wait till January ;) Detroit is going to be fun
