New Tacoma vs Colorado vs Ranger

But!

2023 GMC Canyon / Chevrolet Colorado
8 speed transmission
2.7L I4 Turbo HO
310 HP @ 5,600 rpm
430 TQ @ 3,000 rpm

I'm impressed !

What's the manufacturer octane requirements?

What's the 2.7L cid?
GM and Ford both have solid 2.7s. Rangers might get it. Its a work truck engine. You want fast? Go 3L Ranger Raptor. The 3L ford motor is their high strung version of the 2.7

The H3 had a V8......why can't the Ranger, Tacoma, Canyon, Colorado have one?

I'm too looking at downsizing from my Silverado, but the power concerns me with midsized trucks

I loved my V8 Dakota
You’ve driven eco boost trucks right? My ‘19 Ranger was as fast as my ‘01 mustang GT, and it was on 32” E load tires.

Peak torque at 3,000 rpm. It’s got plenty of power.

On my ranger 87 octane was fine but they recommend premium for towing. That and the 18 gallon gas tank and the 12 mile per gallon while towing was enough to make me change.

Seems like the Ranger with Ford Racing tune makes a lot of people happy. 🤷‍♂️

I have a 3.5 F150 Max Tow and never once thought it needed more power. I think I'd tune a Ranger though.

2023 Ford Edge ST

twin-turbocharged 2.7-liter V-6 engine
335 hp and 380 lb-ft of torque

Is the 2.3L the only available Ranger engine?

The 2.3 in the Ranger puts out more hp and torque than the 4.7 V8 in the Dakota. It has less hp but more torque than the 5.3 V8 in the Colorado. The 2.3 is going to smoke a NA V8 at altitude.

I think the Raptor Ranger gets the 3.0 Ecoboost. I don't think the 2.7 comes in any ranger.

This.

Also the peak numbers don’t tell the whole story. There’s the whole “area under the curve” also.

2022 Ranger
10 speed transmission
2.3L I4 137cid
270 HP @ 5,500 rpm
310 TQ @ 3,000 rpm

2022 Canyon / 2022 Colorado
8 speed transmission
3.6L V6 170cid
308 HP @ 6,800 rpm
275 TQ @ 4,000 rpm

Is the 2.3L single or twin cylinder?

The 3.6L is naturally aspirated?

For reference on my current truck:

5.3L V8
355 horsepower @ 5,600 rpm
383 lb-ft of torque @ 4,100 rpm

2.7 is rumored to be an option in the 24 redesign Ranger. The 2.3 is pretty decent but the 2.7 is s totally different beast

2.7 Ranger will be sweet! Ford is having lots of parts supply issues though so it might be awhile before we actually get it.
