Got the BGF AT's in a 33/10.50 (Mine measured out @ 33.275" when new and now after a year of use, they're still 33" tall... These things wear like Iron and are PHENOMINAL in the rain and snow) Flavor on my First gen With an OME Dakar suspension and I can tell you that the ride difference over my old 31's is WAY better (imo aside from some of the harder-to-find brands like Maxxis Big-horns and the Wrangler Dura-tracs - Both of witch I REALLY like but are closer to an MT tread then a true AT, the BFG AT's are IT for me here in the NW. They're just more agressive then most offerings in the "AT" Market) ... Yes I need to re-gear badly, but since you and I have manuals it's alot less noticable then with an Auto-box. Congrats on the 1st Gen purchase mate. I truly think these are some of the coolest, stoutest trucks ever offered in N.America. Underpowered YES, but they'll go places that will mae guys in far more built rigs do a double take. Welcome to the club mate, Nice truck Eh. I know I LOVE my 1st Gen 4Runner, glad to hear you're happy with yours.

Cheers

thanks, ya the manual makes a big difference, this truck still has the stock 4.10s and is running on 33"s, downshifting 2 gearsnto go up a slight incline is a common activity

I hear that interco's measurements are of the carcass's diameter... not the measurement with the tread.

That would make sense. A 31x10.50 TSL will measure out to almost be 33" tall when new.

Thats interesting. I have run several 33x12.50 BFG AT's and they always measured out to be about 32.75". They do wear like iron. I couldn't tell you how many miles I have put on a set of AT's.

Yeah JH that's what I was expecting too from all I've read but they measured out. And yeah, I think Iron is a bit easier to wear down then these tires. Simply amazing for how well they grip up in the wet and snow eh, I'd expect them to wear a bit faster.

Another tire I really like the look of is the Super Swamper M16 I belive ??? they also come in my personal fav. 33x10.50 and look like a very nice, somewhat more Mud-worthy terrain tire then the AT's. Course the KM2's come in 33x10.50 as well and are very highly thought of. So far I'm liking my BFG's so I may have to stick with them.

Cheers

Little update, I have found a good shop in the area who is going to be assisting me with the OME install, been fixing a few minor issues here and there. This is the main thing I have done since I posted. My seats were beat to hell and I have been on the lookout for some new ones, Nothing coming up on craigslist, the specialty toyota junkyards wanted $350 for them. Found a set out of a 91 in nice shape for $150 for the pair.

Getting the old ones out was a PITA at first, but like everything it is all about the right tools, picked up a 14MM ratcheting wrench to get to some bolts underneath the passenger seat and had them out quickly. Drivers seat bolts were easy to get to with a regular socket wrench.

Drivers seat bolted right up, Passenger front 2 bolts fit but I will need to drill/tap or drill/bolt 2 new holes for the rear rail. They look great!

 Me want.

hit the junkyard my man, it did take me a while to find decent front seats though, seem to be a popular item

these are some nice seats, drivers side has all kinds of funky adjustments you can do, really lock yourself into the seat

plus they sit you sit up a bit higher in the truck which I like

Those seats are sweet. I put 125K on a pair of them in my old 88 4Runner, totaling 230K miles and they still look as good as the ones in your photo. I now have them in my 86 4Runner, replacing a set very similar to yours in condition, and I honestly like them better than the seats in my Taco (perhaps I molded my rear to the 4Runner seats shape...)

FYI, you can nab a PDF of the FSM from a lot of places online:

Idler arm rebuild - really easy to do.

Front end kit - if you need more than one or two parts this will probably be worth getting. There are cheaper packages out there but this one got good reviews from other Toyota owners. I don't have any personal experience with it though.

Pic of the bumper - so you can see what the Marlin looks like. Plus I like to whore out pics of my rig.

My build thread - most of it is not relevant to you but it has lots of pics of my truck with the bumper and also on 31's

I have one other idea, but I need to get pics. It's also a budget buster and probably not necessary.
freakin sweet bumpie.....I think:victory:

I put some of those seats in an 89 4runner. Great find. I think they do sit a bit closer to the dash than the stock seats, but it wasn't an issue for me. If you want the back seats to match, you can swap the cushions from the 2nd gen to the frames of the 1st gen and then your seats will match.
