New to the forum, building a trailer...what do you think?

Lots of well thought out details! I like that.
Can you tell us the model of the trailer the axle & brake parts are off of?
Thanks,
Mike

Very interesting trailer, really like the fold up deck. Are you going to make a tent that covers the whole thing or use snap on sides?

I really don't know what the actual "model" of the trailer is. Here is one exactly like the one I started with (ebay item # 360244318402) Now I assure you I didn't pay that kind of money for it...I picked it up for $100.00. I am having snap in side curtains made that will have windows and window screens.

interesting morph trailer...

can't wait to see the curtain/side panels in place for the makeshift tent.

does the upper deck seal to the bed ?
meaning: could the bedding be left in there, dry ?

only drawback, that I see, with this unique trailer... is

it don't seem to have much coverage/storage for camping gear and personal effects...
and last I knew... neither do jeeps

and tho' seemingly limited to a specific type duty... I like it... and nice work :)

There is a weather-tite seal between the upper and lower half. I plan on leaving the bedding in place when the trailer is closed and so far it appears that it should seal fine. Of course, living in an area that gets about 7" of rainfall anually helps. :sombrero: And yes, it does have space limitations for sure. But with most of my trips being two or three day jaunts, hopefully I will have enough space for the essentials.

Todays addition

With wanting to have a cooler mount that swivels out of the way, I decided to utilize a locking hub and spindle assembly from a Dana 30 axle. After some machine work and modifications, I mounted the assembly right behind the hitch and fabricated a way to hold the cooler. To swivel the cooler out of the way (to give access to the cooking area) you simply reach under and unlock the hub. This gives 360 degrees of movement and will lock in any position. Also added a couple of photos with the bike loaded. To answer one of the last questions, it's 52" wide Overall width) and is about 120" in length.
