I stumbled across this forum by accident and it appears that there are more people afflicted with this need to develop the perfect off road/expedition/camping trailers then I thought. I don't feel so alone anymore. I have owned my 1964 M416 for over 20 years and have wanted to make it my own for at least that long. But as you all seem to understand, life conspirers against us at times and the more mundane things (work, family, career, funding) seem to take the front seat. Last year I finally tore her to the frame had everything media blasted and started the modifications I had in my head and on paper. I removed the stock tongue and fabricated an extended one using the stock lunette. I fabricated a basket for the tongue. The bed floor was in pretty bad shape so that was cut out and replaced with 1/8” tread plate. The bed corners were reinforced in preparation for a tail gate and then that was fabricated and installed. A bumper with 2” receiver was fabricated and the lights relocated to it. I am working on getting the bed coated, probably with a do it yourself kit and then the outside painted with Hammerite. The last thing on the list will be two roll bar type bars to support the RTT. I have a pioneer tool rack and fuel can brackets that I have yet to decide on locations for at this time. I carry all my equipment in weather tight boxes which will be secured in place with a Core-Trax system. As you all know and I am well aware it will not end there but you have to get it on the road at some point. I have photos of most of the changes but I have to work out the details of how to get them posted. So I promise photos will be coming. I want to add a 12 volt system and some type of water tank. I am also considering a propane system to fuel stove and lights.

I have one question. I like the idea of the table mounted over the fender that AT offer’s, but I have not seen a detailed photo of how it is located and holds its position. So can anyone point me in the right direction there, I would appreciate it.

I guess you will want to know what I will pull it with. I have owned jeeps all my life mostly of the CJ variety. At this time I have 2002 Liberty Sport with a 2.5” skyjacker lift, 245/70R16 BFG's, on black steel mod wheels. The roof rack is a one off made of aluminum and power coated black, with lights, CB antenna and racks for the kayak. It is my everyday driver. I have just acquired an 84’ CJ-7 with a 327 and turbo 350. But it needs work so I guess that’s the next project in the shop.

If I recall there are two locating pins that get attached to the top of the fender. These pins, gravity and the overhang of the Chaser keep the shelf securely in place: Simple and effective.
