Figured I'd introduce myself, been lurking on here a while. I've had numerous trucks/jeeps in the past but finally picked up my first montero. I searched forever to find the right one. It's a '98 from Colorado, rust free with 180k on the clock image.jpeg

I saw that in my search, it looked okay from the pictures but I wasn't sure if it'd be rusty or not. Hope you enjoy it.

Thanks! Haven't registered it yet, waiting to ref in Maine because ct is a nightmare. Yes, it has the locker. The thing is loaded! (And it came with the wind sail on the roof haha). Guy I bought it from had the timing belt done around 160+ and he gave me a whole book of receipts and service records, took great care of it. I have to decide what I'm going to do for tires and eventually order the complete ome suspension

I may be a bit biased myself, but you can't go wrong with the OME setup and some 33x10.50 tires with good siping for those northeast winters.

And make sure you remove those running boards, they love to collect dirt and salt in the gap between the body and board to create rust spots, speaking from experience anyway.

That's exactly what I was thinking. I was going to go with km2 but they lack siping, and I love the new ko2 but I want better mud traction :/ so I'll keep searching. Hopefully 33s don't put too much drain on power/mileage with stock gears. I still need to find a place that sells rock sliders for this thing too

Looking for that thing i just had in my hand...
Looks like mine when I first got it. Nice color choice.

i've got THESE tires for under $700 installed, going to stud them this winter, hopefully will be OK even though can't expect miracles

My buddy was actually just telling me about these, he's gotten them through work for a couple other trucks before. I realllly dig the way they look, only downside is they have no skinny 33's. I'm pretty dead-set on 33x10.5 for better daily driving, less drag etc. I think I'm going to try a set of these: http://www.4wheelparts.com/prodDetail.aspx?partNo=M/T90000024324&catID=13&subCat=536&ptID=101509

I have ******** cepeks (mud country) on my mountaineer and they are fantastic tires, so I'm sure these will do well. I've been searching all over for gears too and can't find a set of 4.90's anywhere :/

4.90's are sitting in just about every junkyard across the country, a quick search will show you what to look for.

I have mentioned to a local shop about upgrading from the 4.30 to the 4.90 and they said that it is not worth it. I am still interested in the upgrade though.

This is likely because they do not know how to swap them out or they are simply idiots, you would gain enough to benefit from it(14%).
