Next Question: Diesel vs. Gas F350

Bed on my Tacoma isn't all that much bigger...like you and @UHAULER I make it work with a small utiltiy 5X8' trailer...but there are many a time wish I had a bigger truck.

You crack me up, you're all over the place on vehicles:p one day you want a one ton toyota with a 6' wheelbase and the next you want a 1/4 ton 14' bed pickup:D

I still go back and forth on vehicles. I bought the 03 f150 supercrew as a commuter beater to save wear and tear on the 02 f350 7.3 gold plated diesel. When I semi retired 2 years ago and had nowhere to be I decided to sell the gold plated 7.3 while they are still hot. Now I want a camper of some sort and am thinking about either getting another truck , 3/4 or 1 ton longbed , ex or crewcab just for a camper or getting a nicer 02-05 f250/350 crewcab shortbed v-10 and getting rid of the f150. We get killed here in California on vehicle registration, insurance, smog. Sitting on the porch looking at trucks that hardly get driven but take up money sucks.

Back to the gas vs. Diesel , I think if you are a numbers cruncher and don't haul heavy all the time a gasser is fine, if you haul heavy , need for business or just like the mostest power you can buy and have the money go diesel.

LOL

Always want what you don't have ;) :p At the end of the day, it is what is already in the driveway works the best. Really really hard to beat a vehicle that has long been paid for.

I am on a 7X14 enclosed trailer...poor man's toyhauler build out....or perhaps an Alaskan kick. No waaaay my little Toyota will handle either one of those things....as they say it soon shall pass. Then I'll start looking at some other "best" setup.

But....already have a couple "best" vehicles....the best ones are the ones that are paid for. :)

You might want to check out a carson rebel toy hauler 7 x14'. I had one and think about getting another but they are hard to find used. Should be able to pick one up for 6-9,000.

That is pretty sweet!

That would of been nice this past trip...got down to 19º.

Wee bit chilly in my glorified tent camper.

A quick bit of some more information. As I stated earlier in here my wife has the 6.7 diesel. Anyway, her belt started to squeak a week or 2 ago. I was going to replace it myself but after researching it I didn’t want to take the radiator out or monkey with all the stuff on top of the motor. Made an appointment with the local stealership last week. Brought it in today. Guy calls an hour later and says “yup, belts squeaking and looks like the tension pulley needs to be replaced.” I tell him to go ahead and fix it. “Sorry. Can’t. Got to order parts” ******? Anyway he let me know that parts and labor would be $690. For a belt and pulley!! Just wanted to let everyone know that fixing diesels is spendy!!

I've been a manual guy all my life, but few years back I was towing the trailer back home from the west coast for thanksgiving, after driving for 12h straight I got within 100 miles of home and got hit w/a snow storm.. took another 8h, crawling through the mountains in heavy holiday traffic to get home.. I was messed up for days after that.

That was not the first time I got screwed by hometown traffic jams after spending all day on the road, but it was by far the worst.

After that I was alot more amicable to the idea of a slushbox, my current ride has an 8spd Aisin in it and I really like it.. shifts fast, shifts smooth, usually it dont act stupid but if it does I can train it using the manual mode when I dont like its shifting behavior.. even has adaptive cruise controll so I dont needa use any pedals for hours on end.. now I can spend 10-20h on the road and I feel great, no more limping around and eating a handfull of muscle relaxers before bed..

getting old sucks.. :(

That's why it's called the stealership.I was getting yet another recall taken care of yesterday,so I asked for a quote on changing the R&P on both axles to 4.10.The stealership wanted $2500 per axle.:censored:

I find myself taking the long way home more often than not so I don't have to sit in traffic and fuss with the clutch....I like to give a little room between me in the vehicle front so I can just idle along...of course someone always shoots into that extra space.

Herniated my L5 in '14...horrible sciatica down my left leg for about 1.5 years...clutching it sure sucked during that time.

getting old does suck...

Have an auto Trooper with captain's chairs...it is like driving a lazy boy...if I wasn't worried about my wife frying my clutch in the truck (or wrecking it) (*her driving kinda scares me)...would swap vehicles with her.

*before someone gives me a hard time about that comment. That isn't being sexist, she is a great driver...but kinda hard on vehicles...where I baby them.
