NHTSA To Launch Jeep Wrangler Fire Investigation

Interesting only 8 complaints have been filed.

Seems related to the recall that added a "hot oil" warning light for those of us with automatics, however that was not limited to the 2010s. Transmission overheats, trans fluid bubbles up and out and runs down on to exhaust potentially causing a fire.

Will be interesting to see what they determine is the issue.

I don't personally own one of the Jeeps in question, but is always good to watch and raise awareness as I will hate to see someone loose their things or get hurt on some on a similar incident. I was also looking at the Consumer Report and the 2010 Wrangler (4doors) together with the 2007 and 2008 and the 2 door version (2005 to 2007 and the 2009 was rated a one of the cars to avoid. I wonder if this incident is playing a factor on those ratings.

I have never put much faith in Consumer Report, they used to give Jeep Wranglers points off for a rough ride. No kidding, solid axles can give a rougher ride? The don't factor in what the vehicles were designed to do regardless of whether it's a sports car, or an SUV.

I have had no issues with my 2010 4-door, in fact it's been one of the most reliable and fun vehicles I have ever owned. Now of course if it bursts into flames, that would be bad.

I agree with you there's no question that it's good to keep manufacturers in check and raise awareness as it seems they won't do it themselves.
