Quick question.

which one gives most consistantly good results?

Im about to pull the trigger on a D90 and not sure wether to keep the 18-70mm from my D70 or buy the D90 with the 18-105 VR.

Has anyone compared these lenses?

I have had some good results from the 18-70mm but never used a VR lens. I have also heard other people saying good things about the 18-70mm.

Shoot everything but portraits :ylsmoke:

If anyone follows our FB page then last weekends greenlane shots were all on the 18-70mm of my D70s.

Thanks for your input.

I shoot the D90 but niether of those lenses. I really liked my cheap 18-55 and but moved over to an 18-200. I'd keep the lens you have and put the money towards some faster glass. Just my $.02. Have fun with the D90. It's been a good learning Camera for me.

I have owned both and would say go with the 18-70. The build quality is much better, actual metal mount versus the plastic of the 18-105. I picked up the 18-70 back when I had my Nikon D60 and my D90 came with the 18-105. I quickly sold the 105 on ebay. I also chose to keep the 18-70 because the 18-105 would creep when pointed down.

Here is an example of a D90 with the 18-70

X2 on saving for faster glass. While I still carry the 18-70, I picked up a used 28-70 f2.8 i now have on the body 90% of the time.

Thanks Beau, confirms what I read elsewhere. Will keep the 18-70 DX, buy a 1.8 50mm and maybe trade in my 70-300 G series for the VR version as I hear its better. Had some good shots out of the G series but they seem to be on the soft side and AF is sloooooooow.
