Nismo in Mexico- destination Puerto Vallarta

I will be driving from El Paso to Puerto Vallarta this coming 02/09/2007 I will be driving thru Durango and Mazatlan, crossing El Espinazo del Diablo to Puerto Vallarta, this is going to be an adventure, in a Nissan Frontier Nismo Crew Cab. I have done some quick research of the area and it seems like it may take us 6 hours to transverse a 141.87 mile route. I am looking forward to a great trip, and I also know it is going to be a great test on the Nismo Frontier.

This Frontier is a silver color with sunroof 4 door, I am taking it with only 20 miles on the odometer, I will brake in the engine in the first 750 miles.
We will be departing at 11:00 a.m. on Friday thru the Santa Teresa crossing, on our way to Chihuahua, staying on hwy 45 wich turns into hwy 49 Jimenez. I will try to make it to Durango by 10:00 p.m. Were we are planning to rest and have dinner by the placita hopefully we can buy some Alacranes as gifts.

The other route that could be a possibility is going thru Zacatecas-Guadalajara to Puerto Vallarta. Time will tell.

I will keep track on the performance of the truck, thru winding roads, rough roads and smooth roads. Upon arriving to Puerto Vallarta, we are planning in driving to The jungles, were they are suppose to have a helicoper( from a resent movie ) on the top of the mountains, should be muddy trails, some small falls and rough terrain. I hope I need to use the e-locker.

Okay! Yeah dude, El Espinazo del Diablo is going to rock you're frickin' world! There's a thread around here about the most dangerous roads in the world, and you'll feel like you might be on one of them. 10,000 feet to sea level, and it's gorgeous the whole way. You go through sections that are pure jungle. We took the route in the opposite direction and I was sick by the time we arrived in El Salto I was sick (AMS).

Question: why not approach Vallarta from Guadalajara? It's a much more tame route. Nevermind, that might be the answer .

Are you going to stop in Zacatecas? You should. Phenominal town. It's classic colonial Mexico:

This sounds like an awesome trip! I was just in PV in July and it is a beautiful place. I was also where the helicopter is. It was left there from when they filmed the movie "Predator". Not all that spectacular to see (when you see it you will know what I mean), it is in a very touristy spot, but if you get the chance, take the Zip Line tour through the jungle........ It is awesome!!!!

Are you going to remember to have your "break in oil" changed? I don't know Nissan's, but I bet 750 miles is about right for an oil change on your new engine......or at least I would do it then.

I'd like some info on the road from Durango to Mazatlan. I have not taken that road yet but I'd like to some time. I understand it's a slow road.

Eurorom is braver than me taking an unproven vehicle on a long distance trip in a developing country! I prefer to have a vehicle that has been proven for a trip like that.

There are plenty of places to change the oil. You'll have no problems with that. It's harder with a diesel since there are not a lot of private diesels in Mexico.

Well I suppose that is the reason I am taking a new Nismo into Mexico, will find out if it is as reliable as they claim ( will find out ) as for the road from Durango to Mazatlan ( El espinazo del Diablo ) I want to do this road! however my friend is worry about the crossing, should be slow, and dangerous!

Zacatecas seems like a nice place to visit, however the route seems boring, and I am looking for adventure!

As fo the Nissmo having only 20 miles in the odometer, well i need to know how reliable this trucks are, plus I think I trust the Nissan product enought to make this trip in such a short notice, however i am always looking for some adventure.

I'm afraid not, amigo. As I remember it, I wanted to get some shots, but it just wasn't practical to stop to do so. Seriously, it's narrow, steep, twisty, and it has a fair amount of traffic. I suppose I could have leaned out the window . . . It was sort of rainy and overcast that day.

Well after all the permits, we are schedule to depart on Friday at 9:00a.m. I hope to make it a 12 hour drive to Zacatecas, then a 9 hour drive to Puerto Vallarta! Time will tell.
