Hey man! Great to see you made the trip into Southern BC. That ferry ride to Port Hardy will be awesome.

We are in Squamish now and heading back to Vancouver Island on Monday to spend a couple weeks with my folks. They have a couple acres near Duncan (1 hr north of Victoria - 45 mins south of Nanaimo). You and that pup of yours should come stay withus for a night there...great big patio on a lake and you can guarantee the fridge will be full of cold ones! Fire me a PM if you can make it work

Cheers
- Van Halen's Crew

i'm in if you are still around, been hiding in no service areas since getting onto the island. sent you a pm!

Is that a Flat Coat Retriever? Looks like a fun time!

How is the single cab F150?

he's a mix of lab and others that i can't be sure of but he is fantastic :)

the single cab is good, the extra room behind the seat in the ford is great, the short bed is just long enough to sleep comfortably in, with the fox coilovers up front and pro-comp (pro-crap) stuff out back it works ok, will upgrade the rear shocks to fox over the winter sometime, can feel the mismatch from front to rear, stock it was terrible imo, would never have taken the hits. lets just say this 2014 has been driven this trip... if i were doing it over again would go 3.7 v6 with 4.10's and e-locker.

back into serviced areas.... at the surf junction campground near tofino this eve, same site i stayed on 8 yrs ago. been a few things that have happend since my last update :)

on to the pics!!!

camping on the peace river down the dry river bed. getting there, there, and hiking the sidehills there, my shoes and shorts were not appropriate with all the prickly plants, the dog suffered a bit too..

on my way towards prince rupert to catch the inside passage ferry i took a detour up the cassiar hwy and as usual made a random turn onto a forrest service road, took the nass forest service road, this turned out well;

cranberry river salmon hole is what i've named this place. finally got rained on enough to take out the tarp, natives can fish the bottom of the falls with hooks and nets, i met a guy there doing this, was cool to see. non indian ppl have an area about 50m above the falls where we are aloud to fish. i caught one coho and was happy :)

the last two picks are of the lava fields near terrace, the forest service road turns back into pavement eventually and there's a massive lava bed and park around it, had no idea this was in canada and am glad i saw it.

putting around some logging roads north of terrace below the lava bed, eventually got a flat, whatever cut the tire was sharp, sliced of a 1/4 of a tread block and exposed the steel belts under the tread on my 33x11.5 cooper st maxx tires. then my truck pooped a tire that just happened to be a perfect match. problem is finding another one on the island..

on the inside passage ferry from prince rupert to port hardy. you had better really really like long boring boat rides if you spend the $650 it cost me to take this ferry. would i do it again? no. i even felt sea sick at the end when on the exposed ocean before port hardy.. lol i guess, it got real good after getting to the island....

when looking to some maps which i almost never do i found that i could go to the northern tip of the island at cape scott, my initial plan was to hike the trail with my trusty dog. we got there to find no pets permitted in the hiking park. so we left taking a few tours as usual, where something else of interest and great reward was found :)

other things to note, saw a few sea lions in elk bay, never able to get a picture though. not having a spare tire is pissing me off, don't feel comfortable to explore where i want. the pacific rim park area is mega touristy, no beach fires, no beach camping, no dogs or dogs on leashes.. ya right ;-) i've got an idea or two for tmrw..

went for a hike today to the what now seems to be very popular canso bomber wreck near tofino. had been there 8 yrs ago, it took a lot of work to find then but today was straight forward and good.

this area has developed a lot since last time i was here, a lot more of everything basically. lots of rules and such, not what this trip has been about. but still very nice and worth seeing for those that haven't or can't get off road. had some great pizza and ice cream in town.

Off the island now. I greatly prefer the northern tip of the island.... Of course i did start my day with a quick dip in the ocean before leaving and doing another hike which i was bummed to not have brought me camera on.

Near falls lk on the coq hwy his eve, pulled up at 11pm to find a couple others walking up towards to the lk, or the trail/rd we all think goes to the lk. Will check it out in the morning. Spending tonight at 1400m so looking forward to the view tmrw. The peak here is around 1850m.
