Agreed. I wanted one for a family truckster. But I ended up with my Quigley. So I guess it worked out in the end.
I have also (after a lot of thinking) decided to keep my HiAce, we have ordred a new caravan and a new car, but I still have my trial rig and "need" my van to trailer it.
So since I'm gonna keep it I thinking about some minor engine modification, A intercooler, more diesel and slightly higher turbo pressure, then I can use it to trailering my trial rig.
Since gas/diesel is pretty expensive here in Norway I bought this "cheeper to run" expedition vehicle, a Honda Transalp Motorcycle.
To day diesel cost 14,3NOK/Liter app. 9,50$ pr gallon and Gasoline cost 15,9NOK/liter app. 10,5$ pr gallon so a "cheeper to run" expedition vehicle is really fun :-D

A few pics from last summer. My wife and I was on a 5000km trip to Lofoten, North Norway with our new Hobby caravan and Toyota stw.
So my HiAce was only used for four nights last summer, but It is used on a lot of day trips.
In winter time when we have a lot of slippery roads and a lot of snow we actually park our new stationwagen for some weeks and use only the car with 4wd and eberspaecher

Yepp, you are correct
I have 225/70-15 on it now (stock = 195/70-15)
No lift but HD coils rear and slightly adjusted torsion bars front.
Sorry to revive an old thread, but aren't the stock rims 16"? So are the bigger tyres 225/70 R16? If so, how happy are you with them? Any problems? I'd like to fit BFGoodrich All-terrains in this size. Thanks.

All these have 195/70-15 as standard, both 2 and 4wd vans.
I use 16" rims from a older Hiace 4wd (1989-1995) on my winter tires, 215/65-16. The old, smaller HiAce had selectable 4wd, 2speed transfer and 195/75-15 (I think?)
The old one also used same front/rear diff as a HiLux pickup so there is many lockers available A dream car, but most of these have rusted apart now :-(
Here in Norway we also have some rules about campervans so the old type would never been legal anyway...
My van i the newer one with fulltime 4wd and no lowgear. But it's much better on snowy/ice roads, and like i said earlier: Offroading is strictly forbidden in Norway.
Anyway, my summer tires is 225/70-15. They have a very nice tread but for what i use this car I don't need more aggressive tread.
But, yes, for the look, I would love some AT or MT tires
For more hardcore offroad i used to use my Volvo L3314N offroader with 35"MTR.
