Its been a busy few days since I last posted, but the work season is winding down and soon I will be off for my Thanksgiving- mid january down season. At this point Im planning on heading to Summit County, CO and trying to find some temporary housing to be a ski bum.
Here are some photos from Jackson Hole, Yellowstone, and the trip towards the Continental Divide at Lemhi Pass. Lemhi Pass is where the Lewis and Clark expedition crossed the continental divide and were disheartened by the landscape they saw ahead of them toward the Pacific. More on that to come!
Here is one of the famous Elk antler shed arches in Jackson Hole.
Some photos on the hike around Jenny Lake to Hidden Falls and Inspiration point.

Hidden Falls
View of the Tetons across Jenny Lake.
Ominous Tetons
The next morning the sky was clear and the sun was shining.
View of the Tetons from Oxbow lake.
Next up are a smattering of my favorite photos from my hurried trip through Yellowstone. The place was so damn crowded, especially when contrasted with our isolation in Canyonlands. The place felt like Disneyland, and I did all my camping in the national forest outside the park. Tourists...
Old faithful
Upper Geyser basin
Lower Geyser basin
Mammoth hot springs
Got this photo from a dirt road that I found that ran parallel to the main road. I dont recommend taking them, even when trying to add to your dirt miles tally. Too many Yuppies in minivans going 4 miles per hour. I got 11k miles to burn down this summer! I think my patience wore a bit thin going that slow compared to the speed I had been exploring everywhere else so far. That said, along this road was the closest I was able to get to a herd of bison in the park.
Upper falls
Lower falls
One of my favorites. I found this lonely old timer wandering down a road, pulled up behind, and walked around to the front to get this shot!
Here is my route through Yellowstone and out through the red rocks wildlife refuge, then Big sheep creek rd, then bannock rd through to the Big Hole and Wisdom, MT.
Lots of beautiful open country, ringed by beautiful ranges.

Off the main road and onto an old stage coach road somewhere in the big sheep creek area.
Clark Canyon reservoir -too many BUGS, beware. the water is too stagnant around the edges.
The big hole at Widsom MT is too huge to photograph. You are entirely surrounded by a ring of mountain ranges. If they had some snow capped peaks it would be utterly surreal.
The summit at Lemhi pass, and the view Lewis and Clark saw as they looked west. They had expected "a gentle slope descending down to the pacific". Needless to say, they were disheartened at the sight of the continuation of the sawtooth range. Nearby is "the headwaters of the Missouri", and a memorial to Sacajawea.
As you descend down into Salmon ID, be sure not to miss the hot springs. Take the road that heads north at the split just west of the summit from Lemhi.
I managed to stumble into a dirt track race in Salmon. Both the peoplewatching and the race were entertaining to say the least.
From here I headed up through Hamilton and Darby on the way to Kalispell/Whitefish lake.. I happened to be passing through during Lumberjack days and caught a few hours of the festival. More pictures soon, I ran out of space on Photobucket.
