Not for USA: Ford Ranger T6

Ford has its Australian design team working on a replacement for the current global Ranger. The new Ranger, known internally as the T6, will be built in Thailand and sold about a year from now.

Pickuptrucks.com says the T6 is larger than its predecessors. The new truck will be about 90% the size of an F150. That's a little larger than the current Toyota Tacoma. The T6 will have diesel and gas engines, and a payload up to 3000 lbs.

Until now, spy photos of the Ranger T6 have been of the popular double cab version. Now we've got a (mostly disguised) photo of the T6 single cab.

The Ranger sold globally should not to be confused with the USA ranger, which is was last re-designed in the 1993. Ford announced that the USA Ranger will cease production in 2012.

Not true. The Ranger was redesigned again in 1998. My 1999 Ranger was a completely different vehicle from the 93-97 models. Different suspension, bigger cab, different motor (mine was a flex-fuel V6.)

@Ford: 4 real doors, 6-foot bed. DO! DO NOW!

Ford to Chazz; buy an F-150

"One additional important element of our decision [to drop the Ranger] was that this Ranger is bigger than our current product, which we'll build through the 2011 model year, and moves much closer in size to the current F-150," Kuzak added. "So its use here would become even more limited, especially when compared to the increasingly fuel-efficient F-150."

Instead of moving back to a more significant difference between a full size and compact (mid-) size, they choose to ignore an entire market segment. Grrrr! There is more to a truck than just how efficient the motor is. I guess I'll keep saving for a Nissan.

Thanks for the links haven! It's nice to know Ford is still innovating, even if they won't bring the goods Stateside.

I agree with Martinjmpr. There was production extension which has led to speculation that the next generation Asean Ranger, codenamed T6, already at an advanced stage of development by Ford Australia would be sold in North America despite of the fact that its Ford truck parts redesigned for global markets outside of North America. The T6 Ranger entered production in 2011.
