objective tyre opinion

Hi All
The reason I have been looking at wheel arch flares is that in about 15 k I require new tyres at present I run 295/75r16 Interco ssm16 been a fair tyre will get about 55k on a set no punchers yet balancing has been a problem very soft compound so a bit of heal and toe, Maybe my fault as I used glass beads instead of stainless. My truck runs at 3100rpm at 100kph red lines when I overtake at 110kph climbs hills easy at 90kph.
Am I mad looking at 315/75 , 255/100 ,or keep the same size.

I run 315/75x16" and before turbo and regearing it had no trouble getting around at a little less revs than you. Will it be a bit different climbing hills - yes but actually it will be running closer in it's torque band which is at lower revs than 3100 Rpm instead of relying on the build up of revs. First set were Kuhmo KL71 which were replaced at around 50,00K's and still had another 10/15,000K's left in them. Will be going back to them. Available through Ebay generally at $300 a piece and would need to be fitted.
Heel and Toe wear is generally not a balance problem it is a problem of tyre design (chunky tread) and inflation. Saying this if you were to run more pressure you would wear the centre of the tyre out so rotating your tyres regularly are the best way to keep it at a minimum.
Stainless beads will outlast glass beads as they don't break down to dust and can be reused.
255/100 is a size that probably will be very hard to find.

Thanks Dan
I can buy 255s at the moment I was a bit concerned that handling and hills may be a problem Price is also a bit high at over $700 per tyre yet if they last 100k it balances out.

Thanks looks like all Heavy lugged tyres only last 50k. I Did ring a friend from my Oka days and he has ten 255s so I purchased the lot for $1500 five have only had 4000ks on them while the other five have had 30000ks on them so for that type of money its a cheap test, gives me time to work on wheel arch extensions Or if I like the 255s keep throwing money on new tyres.
