offroad boat trailer

Well not really but I just wanted to post some pictures of it! Cruiser hubs with 16" rubber off a CDN M101. I tried to get it as low as possible for easy water entry and still have a big enough tire to pull it through the mud. The boat is a Devlin Broadbill that I built and modified myslf. 9.5hp evinrude on the back. It draws just under 6" of water fully loaded. I hope to get it grassed this week.

I wish I had those tires when draging a 21' sailboat across 50 km of gravel roads on Vancouver Island a number of years ago. This was on the way to sail on the Kyuquot Sound on its NW side (from hwy 19 to Fair Harbour).

However they could make lauching a bigger boat harder, since they raise the trailer, requiring deeper water before the boat floats.

Just need an airspring suspension set-up. High for getting there, low for launching or recovering.

air bags. Dang, I should have thought about that!! Maybe next season.

As for the build it's a stitch and glue fiberglass over wood. you basically sew the bottom and sides together with wire, fillet the inside with wood flour, epoxy and strips of fiberglass and pull the wires out. Then glass the whole boat. I was fortunate to know people and got the bottom chopper gunned. It added a lot of weight but is VERY strong. It fell off the back of my truck and needed to replace the top. The camo was laid over the glass with UV stable resin. Works great.

I used to haul it around on top of my M101. What a PITA.

Hey

Dude,

I'm curious as to what is the basic dimensions are of the boat? Length, width, average depth, Height of the transom? Thanks (I have a research project in mind only it needs to seat two people).

I used to drool over Devlin designs in the Small Boat Journal. I just finished off a gallon of System 3 resin that I bought years ago when dreamed of doing some stitch-and-glue. Mostly I used the epoxy for household repairs, and storage boxes for a pickup bed.
