Ok, so the Tacoma's gotta go...

Well, we're expecting our first baby here shortly. We currently have 3 cars. Integra (my commuter), Corolla (her car) and my Tacoma. I just don't feel too safe with her driving the Corolla with all these jacked up F250's going around thinking they own the road. So, I know what you all are thinking. Why not have her drive the Tacoma? Well, the only safety feature on the Tacoma is airbags. No side curtain airbags, no VSC, no ABS!

So we've decided that it is best to consolidate to 2 cars. I'll be sticking with my commuter and we'll sell both the Corolla and the Tacoma and get her a 4th Gen 4Runner (with side curtain airbags. Looking at 06-09's).

I'd love to keep my Tacoma, but I just can't justify having a 4Runner and a Tacoma. If my work were a bit closer, I'd definitely choose to keep the Tacoma, but driving 100+ miles per day takes a toll in the pocketbook (I get about 2x the MPG in the Integra). It really pains me to have to get rid of the Tacoma. :( I love that truck and it was really handy to have for house projects and road trips. It's been a perfect little truck. Has given me zero problems.

If anyone's interested in the Tacoma, let me know. We just decided on this tonight, so I'll be making a FS thread. Then, hopefully, I'll be able to find a nice 4th Gen.

Here is a pic:

That stinks man but you gotta do what you gotta do. Will the wifey still let you play out on the trails with the new 4runner??

There's a couple 4th gens for sale at Menlove Toyota.

The 4th gens have really grown on me, so that would be a nice platform too.
I don't know what your drive is like(hills, winds, etc...) but if you really wanted to keep the Tacoma, you could start hypermiling it when you drive. Buy a lightweight set of tires for the commute in the stock size and mount them to another set of aluminum wheels and get yourself a scan gauge and watch your driving habits. I don't pull my truck out of gear and coast, but I feather the gas now more, and its really paid off.
Its not going to get you 25 mpg, but it can get you close to 20 depending on the terrain.

Whatever you decide, you will make the right decision. Congrats on the kiddo!

I never noticed your Siddhartha quote before, that's awesome!

Nice truck, my friend is looking for an impulse red double can and he is local, he lives down here in Cedar City, but he goes up to Salt Lake/ Park City alot. I will let him know you are selling it.

@ austintaco - even if I could attempt hypermiling, I wouldn't net over 23mpg. I'd be at 40mpg in the Integra. Plus, tires, regular maintenance is much more expensive on the Tacoma. And since the wife will have a 4Runner, it wouldn't get used that much for the camping/skiing/road trips. Just doesn't make sense to keep it.

Well, sounds like I've already got some interested parties. I'd love to see it go to another Expo member. Still working on taking some pics.

Also, if anyone knows of a 4th Gen for sale, let me know. Interested in an 06-08, side curtain airbags is a must. Pref less than 50k miles. V6. And would mich rather deal with a private seller than a dealership.

Just pick up an M416/M101Cdn to tow with the rnnr when those big box home store runs need to happen. Then you can build a removable cover, get an RTT, ......

heh, heh, heh......

I don't understand this. My 1st gen Taco (2004) had ABS. Don't all of the 2001-2004 models have ABS?

Well, if there is one in my Tacoma, it really sucks!! :D

They were an option for 01 and 02, IIRC. Might have come standard on 04's. But I actually prefer no ABS. Not when my wife's driving, though.

ironically I just bought a DC because we are having our first baby:)

I understand the car shuffle though..and the 4runner is a good choice. Commuting doesn't really factor much for us, plus the other car is a forester..which the wife usually drives.
