I made these mounts this past weekend using some 1" rollbar clamps off ebay, quickfists, and some 1/4" x 1 1/4" x 6" 6061 aluminum stock. All the hardware is stainless steel with anti-seize on the threads.
They seem to work well and hold the shovel/axe well. They will get a little test offroad this weekend.
