OME Springs

That's vaguely familiar - like what that knucklehead in post #19 told you. ;)

Prepare to check the travel on your shocks with the addition of the AAL and drill out the hole in the new leaf as well. You may consider a longer travel shock like the N76. You likely won't have to replace the centering pin as it was long enough to do the job and accomodate the new leaf, too.

Let us know what happens.

IF you need extra OME center pins, let me know. I have some in my drawer here at work, I can send you that will fit the OME with an AAL.

LOL!!! I know, just passing on MY experience. Which sounds like it was on par with yours. Very good, IMO.

Going to check shock length once I get the AALs in. Im using some HD shocks from Autozone right now. Was going to wait until I got the springs in and then look for some decent ones.

THanks Wil. Ill let you know. The center pin looks like it should be long enough, but Ill know better once I get the AAL's.

It rides great with the AAL. Drove 5000 miles and offroad at Moab immediately after the installation (the next morning) and couldn't have been happier with the ride. What made the ride even better - Lexus-like by my butt-o-meter - was the installation of DeMello frame reinforcement plates. Really made it feel solid. Have driven another 8k miles since, some offroading of course.

I second everything Tim's said. As a matter of fact, it was after chatting with him that I decided to pull the trigger on my AALs. I put them on last weekend and the difference was DRAMATIC... both in ride height, spring arch, and ride quality (stiffer, but more "secure" feeling; less squish, if that makes sense.)

After having the Dakar's under my 5500lb truck for 9 mos and several thousand miles of off-highway driving, they were cooked. Totally flat at best, neg arch at worse. The rubbing was killing my fender wells, and I was growing to hate the stinkbug look. I didn't want to invest in a new $500 custom pack just yet, so I went with the simple answer first...

Fifty bucks on the AAL, two hours in the driveway, and I got my leafpack back. :) Full arch. I'm hopeful this AAL will get me through a year or so.

Slight rake looks good, too.

Oh, and I also second the vote for frame reinforcement plates. Got my from CBI not DeMello, but whatever, no matter. The difference in that "planted" feeling is night/day. Highly recommended.

My rear setup now:
OME Dakar pack
OME AAL for 05+, but drilled out for Gen3 center pin (inserted as 3rd leaf)
All-Pro 1.5" (3/4" lift) greaseable shackles
Bilstein 5125
CBI frame plates

Good luck whatever happens!

Glad to hear you've got a solution in the works. The original spring center bolt should have plenty of length. You can insert the AAL without pulling the spring from the vehicle, put it on jacks, pull the tire, support the axle, remove the u-bolts (which need to be checked for length and technically should never be re-used after they have been torqued), remove the clamps on the spring and your ready to insert the new leaf.

Yea, on my old 03 dub cab, i ended up making my own set. I used the stock set of leaves, added one long AAL, and then added 2 long leaves from a spare stock set. That set up was sweet. IT handled a bed topper, my eezi awn rtt, full load in the back prepared for baja for a week or 2. I ran it like that for 2 years until i sold it, and theyre still in it.

I'm glad it worked out for you Wes. That frame reinforcement makes a world of difference doesn't it? It's been 15 months so far since the AAL and with the addition of more static weight; still hanging in there.

Lesson learned, never again go with a "no-name" website vendor!!!!

110% with you on this. This is why I buy my stuff only at trusted and well known vendors.
My experience: I got my ARB bumpers and OME coils from Wil at Sierra Expeditions. His Customer Service is SUPERB. If I have a question on any of the roducts, he has an answer and if needed same day shipping of the replac, ment parts. I'd gladly continue working with his company in the future. I don't know how he does it, but sometimes he can manage the deals you can dream of. I recently orginized a Group Buy for Snorkels for my buddies here in the North and all of them were extreamly happy with outcome of it. BTW, they want to say THANK YOU Will once more time.
Conclusion: Well known for quality vendors is always a good way to go.

Since we're on it... Wil does have exceptional customer service. I was having a prob with the Nat Luna battery monitor that I bought from him (nothing major, I just inadvertently ordered the wrong one and was having fitment and operational issues). I was up against a deadline for a trip, though, so I didn't have time to ship back / wait for new. I called Wil for help!

On the phone he brainstormed up a custom fab which would solve my dilemma by combining my flush-mount monitor model with a surface-mount dual controller model. THEN he overnighted me his personal Nat Luna controller which he'd just pulled from his truck. Free, as in... a gift. :D

I followed his creative mod solution, and I now have a one-of-a-kind Nat Luna Flush-Mount Dual Controller mounted neatly in my headliner.

Couldn't have finished my wiring overhaul and made that trip without your help, Wil. Thank you, bro!

Shameless plug for Sierra Expeditions!
