On Board Air Location JK

If you have the room, I like the PowerTank setup. I also run the ARB compressor also, off the brake booster with the bracket, but nothing beats the PowerTank setup, in my opinion. See attached pic and I've also got a setup off the rear roll bar mount.

Same here. I have the ARB under the hood and a power tank in the back. ARB is mainly for backup... as I use the PT all the time.

How are you planning to get the wire into the passenger compartment? Are you drilling the floor somewhere?

If you are using the hole next to the brake booster, you might be adding about 7 or 8 feet of wire to go across the jeep and back.

This is one of the main reasons I chose to put my fridge on the drivers side... Shorter wire run. It runs pretty easily below the door jambs either way.

I'll look forward to a picture.[/QUOTE]

So I came back across this post tonight as I'm looking to install the small ARB compressor to actuate my new air locker. I finished the install of the Viair compressor over the wheel well and it works great. It's a little loud for passengers in the rear which is why I'm going to use the ARB compressor for the locker (that and ARB won't warranty the locker if you use a non-ARB compressor).

I ran the wire to the Viair compressor from the battery into the cabin through the foam filled hole on the passenger side, then up to the roll bar where I fed it back to the cargo area. It actually worked surprisingly well and kept it entirely hidden. Since the compressor is directly below the roll bar the wire ended up coming out at the perfect spot. I'll try to post a picture of the mounting location when I get a chance. It's not very pretty but it works.

I'm hoping to put the new compressor in the under floor storage area, since it should be used in very short bursts and I shouldn't need to worry about overheating. I already have a compressor mounting bracket for the Viair that attaches to the brake booster I may modify to mount the ARB but I'm not sure I want to have to run the air line the length of the Jeep to the rear locker.

I'll try to post some pics &/or video of the install.

Oh and that dual battery setup is still sitting in my basement waiting to be installed... one day...

Photos were taken shortly after the install on my 2012 JK, about three years ago. The Viair "L" bracket needed to be reinforced, so a local shop (Rockridge 4wd) welded a "front" to it, which is impossible to see and I didn't think to take photos of it before it went back into the Jeep.

At the time I was only running a front air locker, but now the compressor is set up to activate front and rear air lockers. Very convenient for airing up the tires too.

Happy as all get out with the way this setup works, both for running the lockers and airing up the tires.

I have a TJ and I have had a small ARB compressor for my lockers under the hood since 2001, no issues. I don't use it for airing up tires and it is a small compressor but heat doesn't seem to have been an issue.
