On board shower plumbing question

Did a bunch of searching and can't find the answer. Brass? Plastic? Or cast iron? What should I be using for fittings like barbs and 90 degree bends. Thanks for any help

I just go to the local hardware store and pick up either the nylon or the brass (not iron!) fittings I need for whatever project it is. Both seem (to me) to be durable and useable with the plastic water tanks I've used.....
