once again, rumors of new Jeep pickup

Jeep should make a JK Unlimited with options that would include a full length hard top and a pick-up cab and bulkhead with half rear steel doors.

That way you could have a 4-door unlimited and then convert it to a "Brute" like pick-up when you wanted to run in truck mode.

You would basically have 3 Jeeps in one!

I don't think that Jeep will ever drop the SWB version of the jeep, its just too iconic.

I would LOVE to see the J8 3-door body make it out into the public market. The development is already done, so I don't see the big issue. It would make a GREAT jeep. It fits on the 4-door JK frame...or J8 beefed up frame. Like mentioned above, you could have a LWB jeep with lots of rear storage and/or a rear seat. You could also have a pickup with a bulkhead and top. The only real change needed would be a modular roll-bar to allow the changes to be made with hand tools....

I would LOVE to see the Nukizer make it to market...VERY cool concept. I would however, still buy the 3-door J8 style body if it was offered WITH the diesel. I think AEV might be getting some more business from me someday....

I'd like one of these!

Just see what Land Rover is doing successfully with the Defender for decades:
90 inch wheelbase: 3 door station wagon, 3 door panel van, pick-up
110 inch wheelbase: 5 door station, 3 door hardtop with or without windows, 2 door pick-up, 4 door crew cab
130 inch wheelbase: 2 door pick-up, 4 door pick-up

That makes sense to us in this community but LR has no commercial success with the Defender in the North American market. Hard for Jeep to use it as a barometer for NA product offering.

And that there is the truth. We are very much a niche market and very much the minority when it comes to vehicle purchases. I do hope that they produce a small truck again though, even if it's not based on the wrangler platform.

BTW Momrocks, I didn't know that we had an Emerald coast? :coffee:

I don't think it would ever happen this way......

but Jeep could make a good living on just the J8/4-door JK length chassis alone.

-Run the same J8 4-door chassis in ALL models offered. It wouldn't be much of a cost increase and would allow the same frame on ALL models. The rear leaves would work just fine if they where tuned a little bit more.

-Offer 2 main body options. You either get the 3-door long wheelbase J8 style body or the 5-door J8 style body.

-You can adjust these two bodies with 'top' options. On the 3-door offer a soft top, hard top, or pickup top. On the 4-door offer a hard or soft top. If you really wanted to get the most bang for the buck you might be able to JUST offer the 4-door body from the J8 and have the top and door system be modular like the H1 hummer platform was ( you could go from a pickup to a 4-door to a wagon all from the same base model.

-Offer it with the Hemi for heavens sake! This would make 90% of the people that buy the jeep very happy. The other 10% would not care, maybe more. You might even keep some of the diesel guys happy with the v-8. Personally I want the Diesel. The VVT 5.7 Hemi would be the best overall match. It gets as good or better mileage than the v-6 i'm pretty sure. Have a good 6-speed manual trans option. Make the standard transmission the 5-speed 545 automatic.

-Keep the Rubicon package going, but offer it like the J7 concept in a bare bones form.

-With the J8 frame it would be really easy to use the D60 rear axle from the J8 line. Make the D44 standard and offer the D60 as a heavy duty payload option

-Make the entire line use the 5 on 5.5 wheels from the new dodge trucks. I think backspacing works out pretty well to be able to use the same wheels back and forth too.

-Make it possible to buy an 'unloaded' jeep also. The options when you want them and when you don't. If you can't do them direct make them options that the dealer installs...for a FAIR price!

Rant dream mode off.....

I would love to get my hands on a new Jeep pick-up if they were to put one into production. Cool solutions for habitat systems are but a heartbeat away here at AT. :coffeedrink:
A Flip-pac on a Nukizer?

Would a production Nukizer be a Power Wagon with different body work?

Jeep should just fix the warts on what they have. Put the diesel and Hemi in the JK. Stop putting lipstick on the pigs (Mountain and Tiki Bob editions) and just make it work better.

I find it highly annoying that Skunkworks can build our dream rigs from mostly off the shelf parts in the Jeep lineup....yet we can't BUY any of it! And they continue to tease us with diesel powered heavy duty big tired low COG rigs!

Come on jeep! Get with it!

I agree with you 100% but the problem is Jeep is going completely in the opposite direction as this. If anything the Rubicon pkg is getting more creature comforts

Jeep Wrangler
* 2011 Jeep Wrangler: The heart of Jeep's lineup will get a slight refresh in late 2010. Most of the changes will be to the interior as Chrysler is looking to upgrade its product lineup as soon as possible. Improved interior materials and state-of-the-art electronics should make that Wrangler that much more comfortable

Each version of the wrangler that comes along follows that direction. As people get lazier and used to creature comforts, they just become the norm. A true utilitarian vehicle is going the way of the dino. The YJ was probably the last TRUE utilitarian Jeep with AC and power steering being the only creature comforts there were. Who would of thought back then that one day you would see a 2WD wrangler with electric windows?

when I bought my first TJ it had ac, no radio (but I did have dealer install one) and carpet and back seat. I saw another one with no backseat, but same specs. the TJ was the last utilitarian Jeep

Well, we did. Now that we are seeing sheets of oil hitting the shore, we may lose our status as the Emerald Coast. Thanks BP.

Without getting political, I will ask everyone on this forum to please boycot BP. It is an outrage what blind greed has done to our envirnment. I am a little puzzled that there isn't a more prominant sentiment of anger over the Deep Water Horizen spill on ExPo.

There is a HUGE difference on how LandRover positions and markets the Defender in the rest of the world and what LandRover NA did with the Defender back in the 90 ies. In Europe (and most of the world), the Defenders are our F150 and F250 equivalent, utilitarian workhorses used by farmers, contractors, forestry service, park rangers, loggers, utility companies, law enforcement, horse owners and yes, off-roaders and expedition travelers. Pricing for a new Defender starts somewhere around 30 grand, again very comparable to the F150 and F250. That's why they are successful over there.

Here in the US, LandRover NA wanted to place the Defender as a fashion statement for the rich and famous.

I fully believe that if Jeep would come up with a utility line of the Wrangler, it would have a lucrative niche.
