once again, rumors of new Jeep pickup

For the general population, a small diesel would be fine, and probably not only well received, but better received than the V-6 currently offered in Wranglers. If I were looking at a Wrangler for a daily driver or a light duty trail rig, the diesel would be worth considering. I just personally like more power and find it easier to get that from a gas V-8, and I have been known to drive aggressively at times.

With everyone wanting more power and/or stronger axles in the new Jeep, maybe Chrysler should build a vehicle like this:

JK-cummins.jpg

It's a project created by 4 Wheel Offroad Magazine, chassis from a Dodge Power Wagon, 5.9L Cummins, bodywork from a Jeep JK. AEV managed to fit it all together.

That monster would cost too much and weigh too much for the people who want a Jeep pickup. All it takes to build a JK pickup is slightly different body work and maybe a frame extension at the rear. The Power Wagon already exists if you want a heavy duty solid axle pickup.

Sergio Marchionne (who is either the CEO of Fiat and Chrysler, or the director of "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly") said there is a better than 50-50 chance that Jeep will soon offer a multipurpose vehicle with a pickup-style bed. Marchionne was speaking at the Detroit Auto Show.

Of course, Jeep already makes a multipurpose vehice with pickup bed. It's called the J8, and it's made in a plant in Egypt.

Heck, just add the 3-door J8 style body to the JK line, then manufacture a pickup style top and bulkhead for it....

And give us the DIESEL already! The new 2011 Euro V 2.8 CRD would be just fine! 197hp, 350ft lbs. 30+mpg.

I am hoping that with things getting further along in the merger and cash flow situation getting better, the silence on the J8 is good. I don't see the bean counters building both a new JK pickup and a hand made incomplete AEV J8. Jeep could pay for the certification and crash testing on the J8 or new Pickup and let AEV build them as a supplier deal. ASC has done this type of operation near many assembly plants, I think they could handle it.
