Hey, I recognize that spot. That was at the last Camp Jeep in 2007 down at Oak Ridge Estate in VA. The Viper V10 powered LJ was parked right next to that JK.

Automotive News is reporting that Jeep CEO Mike Manley said that no Jeep pickup will be offered until 2015 or 2016, if at all. The cost to retool for the pickup doesn't make sense until the Wrangler is scheduled for re-design.

This is just silly. Jeep makes the J8 in Egypt. The J8 chassis, which has a reinforced frame and stronger leaf springs, could be imported and fitted with the same engine and drivetrain that USA-legal Jeeps get.

Interesting. 4wheeler magazine just said they were expecting one in 2014 with the redesigned Jeep. I think 4Wheeler is wrong. In fact I would be surprised if we see a redesign of the wrangler before 2017. Ever since the YJ, the Wrangler has been on a 10 year cycle. YJ=1987, TJ=1997, JK= 2007, and I predict 2017 for the next iteration. The only reason I see Jeep changing before then is if they need to meet new gov regulations. But since Obama gave the EPA the authority to write laws that don't need to pass in Congress, there is no telling how the EPA might get their hands into our beloved vehicles. It wouldn't surprise me if the Wrangler could not be built at all.

First, government agencies set rules, Congress passes laws. The rules can be challenged in court if people think they are unfair, or interfere with states' rights, or are without scientific merit. Congress authorizes the funding for executive branch agencies. If the Congress wants to, they know how to pull the plug.

Yeah thats how gov't is supposed to work. But thats not how things are currently working. I had thought that the Dems and Obama had passed a law that gave the EPA the authority to create law. But it might be that the EPA is just seizing that authority on its own and the administration is not doing anything about it. I can't recall all the details and instances of the EPA current power grab. But I know the EPA is really pushing their weight around. Take for example their recent requirement for CAFE averages of 54.5 mpg-by-2025. http://www.nationalreview.com/planet-gore/273848/epas-illegal-mpg-henry-payne Regulations like that make it pretty tough for Chrysler to build us solid axle Jeeps. But it wasn't my intent to politicize the thread. So I will let it go at that.
Also you are correct about the Egypt plant. I knew that. I just wasn't thinking strait.
