One more M416 build

Just pick up a 1967 M416 an considering it came from the Pittsburgh area,it's pretty rust free...My goal with this, is a little sportsman type haul all . Didn't really know where to start with this since it's in such good shape, but I knew I wanted a tailgate and bumper so that's where I'm at now.

I've searched this form an YouTube to come up with some ideas an I wanna thank CJ James on youtube an Bonofied suiter on here because i'm "stealing" some of their idea's. I really liked CJ James M416 but I don't have that much talent so I'm trying to make a bumper like his an the tailgate also is coming together

I'm a little off on the right side but I think it'll work out. I bought a couple different latches but didn't like either so I made a couple,(don't laugh at my lack of welding skills)

Started on the front yesterday,an it was a really tough decision to take the lunette assemble off an do what I did but I already ruined the integrity of this all original M14 when I cut a tailgate in..I decided to go with a Lock-n-roll hitch an I think it turned out pretty good

Started the lid this weekend,I was trying to copy the one done by Bonofied suiter on this site. It's going to be a 2 piece lid with another hinge at 48", I really like the design but it also serves a purpose of being able to use a 4'x 8' sheet of metal an hopefully not have any seems.. I was gonna try to "pin" it at the hinge so I could also lift it up as 1 piece but the idea of having spring loaded pin type latches mounted on the inside kinda fell apart when I realized I couldn't reach them with the tailgate down, so now to plan B an i'm not sure what that is yet..

My idea of pinning the 2 sections together was to use this spring latch on the inside off the lid but then discovered I couldn't reach it with the tail gate down, then thought i'd put it on the top but the two pieces hit when I open it so now I'm trying to come up with something new (any ideas would be appreciated )

You’ll need to rethink those pins and probably mount them underneath. If you lengthen the pin all the way to the tailgate and support the rod appropriately you can reach it just by dropping the tailgate.

Just look at this awesome 15 second drawing I did while doing nothing in my work truck!

I think it works, took me a little longer than your awesome 15 second drawing but basically the same, tomorrow I have to clean up some welds, reinforce a couple areas but it works great. I took my little spring latches apart an made them longer, set them up on top to see how they'll work then mounted them underneath .

Well I finally got the lid about finished. I got a sheet of 16 gauge metal almost enough to finish it but I did have to splice a piece on the little lid but I figure with some body filler an the roof rack rails over it , it should be fine..Now my dilemma is how to fill in the seem between the 2 parts.. I still have to clean this top up a little with some trim an the struts I used were 70lbs an not exactly enough to hold it up,but I had those from a previous built so either I'll put a "leg" on it like a car hood or get heavier struts...

Since I had The POR out I figured I'd do the underside of lid,the shiny part is where I used the Top coat like on the fenders an the flat finish is just the rust preventer.

Now off with the tub,I started stripping it with paint remover an it's coming along. There seems to be a red primer, maybe white paint then grey primer an Olive paint about 4 layers to come off. I'm going to epoxy prime the tub an go with a sand color base/coat clear coat an the frame will be POR 15 chassis black
